A break from top 40 crap!,

Finally, a song that has meaning to it.Im not exactly the worlds biggest Whitlam fan but I honestly they are one of our times greatest Australian bands. "Blow up the pokies" actually had me in tears after I finished hearing it. Not only was the song sending a message of how the poker machines were tearing a man and his family apart, it also had a message of how the poker machines (a machine I always have and always will hate) have destroyed chances to hear cool club music in Sydney. I won't be forgetting The Whitlams for a long, long, time.

Tear jerker!,
By Simon Richardson (Sydney, Australia) - See all my reviews

"Blow up the pokies" is one of my favourite songs. It's a beautiful, but sad song about a man fighting an addition which is threatening to break up his family. It's also inspiring, because it expresses an idea of hope that there is light at the end of the tunnel, that this man can break his addiction. The music expresses the emotion in the lyrics beautifully. I find the whole song (especially the chorus and string section) extremely moving, so much so that I have cried whilst listening to it. Not only that but this song is backed by "The curse stops here", another tear jerker about two sourly missed founding members of the band who pasted away in tragic circumstances.

I love the lyrics. I think this song will touch the hearts of almost everyone. The truth is not often so well portrayed.

Thought provocing lyrics well written and strikes a chord with younger and older listeners takes a couple of listens to get into and may be a bit to Australian oriented (but is that a bad thing)
