3.0 out of 5 stars Half and Half
AC/DC's 1988 release, "Blow up Your Video" is a bit better then "Fly on the Wall" but its not much of an improvement, as half of the songs 10tracks and good, and half are just plain bad. Even though some fans might bash the album as a "Sellout" and crossing over more to a hair-metal sound, I dont find that the case with this album, but the problem that I have with some of...

The great thing about AC/DC is that you know exactly what you're getting when you buy it. Their formula is simple, crunchy riffs, insane solos from Angus, Brian (or Scott) throwing their throats out, sing a long choruses, and a bottom end that kicks your (...).

Blow up Your Video is no different. Sure some songs are better than others, and there are better AC/DC albums than this (Back in Black, Highway to Hell), but the formula is still there. AC/DC always stuck to their guns. When a lot of our favorite bands have gone out into la la land and released really bizarre stuff, AC/DC were there to keep us anchored. They may never have an Unplugged Session on MTV or release a 'concept' album, but I don't think AC/DC fans want them too. When it comes to rock n roll, AC/DC are meat and potatoes and there ain't nothing wrong with that.

Favorite tunes on this album: Heatseeker, That's the way I wanna Rock n Roll, Meanstreak, Some Sin for Nuthin, and Go Zone.

5.0 out of 5 stars Blow Up Your Video...(Enough TV, already, listen to music!), July 2, 2003

Once more, AC/DC makes another fine album. Great tunes here,
in tradition of preceeding AC/DC albums.
With "Blow Up Your Video" you get a good example of how AC/DC kept it all real. They didn't go with what was current, they didn't buy into the hype of fashion and publicity.
They just had a will to rock, and the will, and geuis to do so.
Although not as good as other 80's albums, (Black...For Those...Switch...) it is better than "Fly On The Wall" (although that's a pretty good album.) Out of all 10 songs, the best would be "Heatseeker", "That's The Way I Wanna Rock N Roll",
"Some Sin For Nuthin'", "Ruff Stuff", and "Meanstreak".
"Meanstreak" has an undeniable funk, and you can't help but get something either bobbing or tapping in time to it's beat.
"Some Sin..." is a slower, burning number, with a good hook, and classic rock feel, plus a dash of R&B.
"Heatseeker", one of the live show staples, just plain rocks out.
With the twelve-bar blues structure, and good...everything.
"That's The Way..." is yet again, a fast paced rocker, with kick and bite to it, paying tribute to the good old days of rock.
(An add for Chevy cars used a clip of this song which mentions a Chevy in a magazine, once.)
"Ruff Stuff" is a pure, all-out hook-fest.(as described in the booklet). With a good melodic tint to it, and an equally melodic hooky riff, this song is one of their best, and has a somewhat "different" sound for AC/DC.
And the others are good, too. If you can only buy two albums from the new set of re-masters, get this, and my personal favorite, "Flick Of The Switch". You'll go home happy, and have these songs stuck in your head for quite a while (but that's a good thing, isn't it...)

5.0 out of 5 stars GOOD AC/DC, March 13, 2002

There a lot of people that think this cd as well as Fly On The Wall are AC/DC's weakest work. Well, I beg to differ. This is a really good cd conisdering the time frame that it came out. I prefer to listen to this or Fly On The Wall over listening to The Razors Edge. From the opening track of Heatseeker to the closing of This Means War, it's nothing but good solid rock. If you don't have this cd, give it a try, it's worth the money.

5.0 out of 5 stars Blow Up Your Video definitely delivers on the rock level., August 3, 2006
This review is from: Blow Up Your Video (Dlx) (Audio CD)
Blow Up Your Video is one of my favorite AC/DC albums, because almost all of the songs on here are incredibly catchy and give AC/DC a new, innovative feel.

1.Heatseeker- One of the albums' hits, this upbeat song keeps the rock pace the whole time. 8/10
2.That's The Way I Wanna Rock 'n' Roll- One of my favorites, because the chorus is catchy and the fast beat never stops. 9/10
3.Meanstreak- One of AC/DC's catchiest songs ever. The guitar during the verses is awesome. 10/10
4.Go Zone- A good solid rock song that does not disappoint. 8/10
5.Kissin' Dynamite- I love the guitar riff during the verses, and the chorus. Just a great song. 8/10
6.Nick Of Time- One of my favorite songs, because the chorus sounds innovative and it is catchy. 9/10
7.Some Sin For Nuthin'- One of the only songs on this album that isn't really a standout track. 7/10
8.Ruff Stuff- More sexually-charged lyrics add to this songs already good beat. 8/10
9.Two's Up- Sort of an ominous song, but catchy and great nonetheless. 9/10
10.This Means War- One of the two songs on this album that aren't really that good. It's fast, but repetitive. 7/10

This album is surprisingly among the greats with "Back In Black" and "Highway To Hell". So that means buy it immediately.

AC/DC's 1988 release, "Blow up Your Video" is a bit better then "Fly on the Wall" but its not much of an improvement, as half of the songs 10tracks and good, and half are just plain bad. Even though some fans might bash the album as a "Sellout" and crossing over more to a hair-metal sound, I dont find that the case with this album, but the problem that I have with some of the songs on this album, is they lack any pure AC/DC energy (of the Brain Johnson era, which started off very strong with the first three releases with him) only to flutter and start losing some steam as the mid 1980's hit. There are some keepers here that no AC/DC fan should be without. "Thats the way I wanna Rock N Roll", "Go Zone", "Nick of Time", "Some sin for Nutin'" and "This Means War" are great AC/DC tunes with plenty of energy and rock, but its a shame that the album couldn't have been more balanced. A average album, but nothing to write home about considering all the filler.

5.0 out of 5 stars Much better than I expected... surprising good!, January 11, 2008
This review is from: Blow Up Your Video (Dlx) (Audio CD)
If you like good heavy blues rock buy Blow up your video. Back in Black is better but this is still very good. Three songs are 3 stars ... Nick of Time, Some Sin for Nuthin' and Go Zone but all the others are so good that this is a 5 star album. Buy it... You won't regret it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Had to write a review for this..., January 7, 2001
This review is from: Blow Up Your Video (Audio CD)
I couldn't resist writing a review for this album, as I'd only seen one on this page, and one giving it only three stars (I give this 4½ stars)! I realize that this album, along with Fly on the Wall, are considered AC/DC's "Lost Albums" or "Weakest Works" and things like that for some reason (and in all truth, Fly on the Wall probably is...but that's not to say it isn't great) but this is one of the first AC/DC albums I've ever bought, and I loved it straight from the start, and still do (I've got all of their albums!).

I don't know what hard rock fans couldn't like about this album. Tracks like "Heatseeker," "Meanstreak," (which is my favorite from this album) "This Means War," and "That's The Way I Wanna Rock N Roll" really light it up. Sure, it's no Back in Black, but I think it certainly measures up with "The Razors Edge," another multi-platinum album, and the one which only came a couple of years after this one. If you doubted this album before, give it a chance, man!

4.0 out of 5 stars it's better than you remembered..., April 12, 2005

I've read some scathing reviews for this album, but I don't get it. I always thought if you meshed Back In Black with Let There Be Rock, you might get the vibe of Blow Up Your Video IMO...loud, heavy, and butt-shakin'. How can any self-respecting AC/DC fan NOT feel like strutting around the house when "Meanstreak" blares through the speakers? I might earn a negative rating for saying this, but IMO "Meanstreak" is one of AC/DC's most criminally underrated songs. The band picks up the pace on quite a few tracks ("Heatseeker", "That's The Way I Wanna Rock & Roll", "Nick Of Time", "This Means War"), which was something that was lacking on their previous album, the decent but somewhat lethargic Fly On The Wall. Strangely, the song from BUYV that DID get most of the attention ("Heatseeker") arguably has aged less gracefully than the others. In a nutshell, I'll say this about the album: none of my Top 10 AC/DC songs come from Blow Up Your Video, but none of my bottom 10 either...it IS one of the band's more consistent efforts, however, and little filler is to be found IMO. If you dismissed this album years ago, do yourself a favor and give it another listen...

5.0 out of 5 stars That's the way I wanna rock, June 1, 2008
This review is from: Blow Up Your Video (Dlx) (Audio CD)
This is a great album! The first 3 songs on the album "Heatseeker", "That's the way I wanna Rock 'n' Roll" and "Meanstreak" are songs that will get anyone tapping their feet. Brian Johnson has a great sense of humor and it shows with songs like "Go Zone", "Two's Up" and the before mention "Meanstreak".. And how could you not help but play air guitar during the fastest song on the album "This Means War".. If you like AC/DC, this is a great album to listen too..
