Biography

West coast rapper Too $hort started his career as a teenager, and rapped about little other than sex. His long and successful career has seen him acknowledged as key influence on the West Coast gangsta rap that was to follow.

He made his debut release Don't Stop Rappin' in 1983, but it was the Born to Mack album which saw him receive critical acclaim and commercial success. The album was included… Read more in Amazon's Too Short Store

3.0 out of 5 stars Album # 16 from $hort Dog is another 3.5 star one, September 6, 2006
By
This review is from: Blow The Whistle (Audio CD)
If you're a $hort fan, then you should know every album he's put out int he last 5 years isn't near as good as his albums when he was still reppin' the Oaktown and doin' it with the Dangerous Crew. Every albumin his last 5 years has been a 3 or 3.5 star album, and they are my least favorite of his 12 albums I own. This is no exception. What happened to the 7 minute long songs with some funky beats, not these played out boring down south beats from Lil Jon & Jazze Pha (who do 12 of the 16 songs on here). The other 4 aren't done by anyone special either (Maestro, Will I Am, Sonny B & Droop E). He still has his trademark Bi@tch and a slew of dirty songs but the feeling just ain't what it used to be in his golden days. Of the 16 sogns, 1 is almost a classic, about half are good, 3-5 I skip and 3-5 are ok. Guests are some big names, but the guests are on some of the worst songs on here. A good album for his die hard fans but get his earlier albums the'ytre all classics or near classics.

#1 - 8 (says his trademark alot)
#2 - 9 (good song & beat annoying hook)
#3 - 8.5 (nice beat)
#4 - 7.5 (f/ Snoop Dogg & Will I Am)
#5 - 8 (f/ Big Zak -- also on his "Pimpin INc." album)
#6 - 6 (f/ Pimp C & rick Ross)
#7 - 7 (f/ Jazze Pha)
#8 - 8 (F/ Jazze Pha)
#9 - 8 (f/ Jazze Pha)
#10 - 8 (f/ Jazze Pha)
#11 - 6 (f/ Bun B & Jazze Pha)
#12 - 5.5 (f/ David Banner)
#13 - 5.5 (f/ Kurupt & Daz Dillinger -- bad beat)
#14 - 5 (f/ E-40, Dolla Will & Mr. FAB)
#15 - 9.5 (tight beat -- best song on here)
#16 - 6 (nice beat but not really a song)

Todd Shaw -- b. 4/29/66 -- b. Los Angeles, CA moved to Oakland, CA then to Atlanta, GA

1.0 out of 5 stars He didn't lie., November 6, 2009
This review is from: Blow The Whistle (Audio CD)
Short said he was retiring after album number 10. He was right. Every album after that shows he did not care and was just going to mail it in from wherever he was vacationing during this long retirement. Hopefully he will come out of retirement and return to that Oakland sound. The bay needs him.

Listen to Albums 5,6,7,8, and 9 and compare it to this stuff and you will know what I'm talking about.

4.0 out of 5 stars Too Short Album 16, September 19, 2006
This review is from: Blow The Whistle (Audio CD)
Bay area rap legend Too Short is back with his latest studio album Blow The Whistle. The rapper's 16th album was released by Short Records and Jive Records. The CD was executive produced by Too $hort and Lil Jon. The first single "Blow The Whistle" proved that $hort still has what it takes to make a hit. He is also featured on the Kelis single "Bossy." "Bossy" is featured on her album, not Too Short. Short enlisted A list artists to appear on his album. Guest artists on Blow The Whistle include Snoop Dogg, Will.I.Am, Pimp C, Rick Ross, Jazze Pha, Bun B, David Banner, Kurrupt, Daz, E-40, Dolla Will, and Mr. Fab.

Too Short can shine solo and this long time fan of "Shorty The Pimp," felt like all of the features weren't needed. Stand out tracks on the album include "Blow The Whistle," "Nothing Feels Better," and "Keep Bouncin' (Street)."

I still prefer his 90's stuff but I'm glad he is still in the game.
