5.0 out of 5 stars Buy 'em all!, May 18, 1999
This review is from: Blow Your Cool (Audio CD)
This is one of the best Rock'n'Roll bands ever. Trust Me: If you like one Gurus-album, you will like 'em all. If you have never heard any song, check out "What's My Scene", "I Was The One" or "Hell For Leather". If you have a job that allows you listening to CDs, grab any HG-stuff you can get - working days will get much shorter.

4.0 out of 5 stars Music that grows on you with each listening., December 15, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Blow Your Cool (Audio CD)
The Gurus produce music that seems innocuous at first listening, but steadily grows on you with time. Quintessentially Australian, the band provides ideal listening for long hot afternoons around the barbecue or relaxing in the pub with a beer. For those who are keen to listen to a broader selection of this band's music, I recommend Electric Soup, a compilation of nearly 20 of the band's best tracks.

4.0 out of 5 stars australian garage band ahead of its time, July 2, 1998

Everyone should pick up a copy of one of the HG's albums, if you like it, you will probably buy them all. They were a grunge band when green day was in diapers, they have solid lyrics and great accoustics. Any album by the HG's is worth taking a look at

Sadly, The Hoodoo's have split but that dosen't mean it's too late to enjoy one of the best albums from the 80's from my favorite Aussie band! The is power-pop glory and the Hoodoo's were one of the best at this style! C'mon, Try it! and then get the rest of their collection. :o)

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Effort From an Excellent Band, March 29, 2002
By
This review is from: Blow Your Cool (Audio Cassette)
Without a doubt, Blow Your Cool is the one of the best CD's the Hoodoo Gurus put out. It has a raw sound that backed by solid vocals and lyrics. Unlike some of their later CD's that felt disjointed, the song writing on Blow Your Cool holds together like a band at their zenith. If you get just one Hoodoo Gurus CD, make this one it.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best of the Hoodoos, March 30, 2005
This review is from: Blow Your Cool (Audio CD)
This brings back many fine memories of my college party days. Arguably the best album from the Hoodoos. Why this group wasn't as popular as the Beetles I'll never know.

5.0 out of 5 stars The finest of the hoodoo's, December 4, 2002

This review is from: Blow Your Cool (Audio CD)
Without a doubt, this is the most gut wrenching, popped-up, agony induced CD ever produced. Sharp lyrics and driving guitars make this CD a classic. If you aren't singing the lyrics in a mock heart-felt rendition by the 3rd listening, something is wrong with you. This is one fine, fine CD. The opening song, "Out That door" is the perfect song crying out for lust lost. What follows are solid songs that will touch your heart. Now don't get me wrong, These are great pop/rock songs, but they, unlike most music today, have heart.

4.0 out of 5 stars FAVORITE GURUS ALBUM, January 7, 2011
This review is from: Blow Your Cool (Audio CD)
The only thing keeping this album from a five star review is a couple of good, but not great songs. I believe David Faulkner had really matured as a songwriter by this, their third album, and you can tell right away on the first four tunes. "Out That Door", the first track, goes right for the jugular with an up-tempo rocker that never lets up. "what's my scene" follows next with a catchy, melodic riff that balances perfectly Hoodoo gurus strengths: hard rock and unique, sing along melody. You start to fall in love with lead singer/songwriter Faulkner's voice by the end of this epic, alternative classic. "Good Times" keeps the beat pumping and adds some keyboards(rare for the band) for another excellent tune, and "i was the one" showcases their ability on the fourth track to play a slower, heart-wrenching blown-romance tune. There are other great songs on this album, but these first four are the real gems that made me a huge Gurus fan way back in the late '80's when a friend recommended it to me. Had i not been talked into buying this album(i was in middle-school at the time), i don't think i would've every discovered them. Check out "My Caravan" later in the album for a mystical trance number that again shows another side to Faulkner's brilliant songwriting.

Thankfully, i recently discovered that these guys never really stopped putting out albums, and their sound still kicks butt today. They could be my favorite Australian band now that Midnight Oil broke up, so if you've never heard of them, start here.

4.0 out of 5 stars I have all albums by Hoodoo Gurus..., April 19, 2000
This review is from: Blow Your Cool (Audio CD)
The first four songs are great. And bonus track "Heart of Darkness". "Out that door" and "I was the one" should be pop classics. Buy this album.

The Hoodoo Gurus are without a doubt one of the best bands aroud still to this day. This album is probably the best one but you really can't go wrong with any of them. The work is fun, sweet, smart, sometimes sad, darkly funny but always well worth it.
