4.0 out of 5 stars Funny and Filled with Great Impressions June 13, 2012
Format:MP3 Music
Unlike 2002's Bathroom Wall, BLOW YOUR PANTS OFF is largely a live comedy album. BATHROOM WALL was a collection of songs that were lyrically funny, BLOW YOUR PANTS OFF mainly works from the impressions Fallon is able to pull off. The album is recorded in front of live audiences, so listeners will be able to hear the cheer and laughter of folks offstage.

The album begins with a rendition of "Fresh Prince of Bel-Air" as performed while sounding like Neil Young (and pulling off a great harmonica solo). "The History of Rap" gives an lightning-fast medley of rap songs (ranging from Snoop Dog to the the Beastie Boys) that works well as a showcase of impersonations and a tribute to the old-school genre. "Scrambled Eggs" works from the infamous origin of the Beatles' "Yesterday" (whose opening lyric was "scrambled eggs, oh my baby how I love your legs.") "Reading Rainbow" features one of the best Jim Morrison sound-alikes I've ever heard. Best of all, it never feels like Fallon is making fun of the original artists; instead, there's a nice good-humored reverence that these homages pay.

There are a few original songs: "Walk of Shame (ft. Dave Mathews)," "Balls in Your Mouth (ft. Eddie Vedder)," and "Cougar Huntin' (ft. Big & Rich)." These songs are nice, but they don't feel as well-formed as most of the songs on Fallon's last album.

Unfortunately, this album doesn't feel like it received the care or attention as BATHROOM WALL. At its worst, it feels a little slapped together with songs from Fallon's late night show. Fans of Fallon will probably have heard many of these tracks before. Even so, BLOW YOUR PANTS OFF hits more than it misses.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not Quite What I Expected June 13, 2012
Format:Audio CD|Amazon Verified Purchase
I pre-ordered this album sight-unseen (or is it sound-unheard?) and was left slightly disappointed after I listened to it today. The biggest reason for my disappointment is the fact that this is a live album, the songs are exactly the same (including annoying laughter) as what I saw on TV, yet nowhere is this mentioned. Since these songs were previously never released, even though they aired on Late Night months to years ago, I assumed Jimmy went to the studio and recorded the greatest hits from the show for this album. I'm sure all of the songs are live because it would have been very difficult to get some of the featured guests in a studio, but consequentially the sound quality isn't the best (they probably just ripped the audio from the video recording), and I find the laughter very annoying when listening to the songs.

The other big problem with this album is that even though there were plenty of songs to choose from, the album is only 39.5 minutes. I can't remember all of the songs Jimmy Fallon performed on Late Night, but I think there are ones I liked that aren't on the album. This problem is confounded further with the fact that the album only has part one of the History of Rap and one random Slow Jam the News.

In the end I wouldn't highly recommend this album, but I would definitely recommend that you go to iTunes/AmazonMP3 to pick and choose your favorite songs. Also, since we now know they record all their songs, I hope that there is a more prompt digital release of songs after they air on Late Night. Still, there are a lot of funny songs on this album, I especially love Reading Rainbow and Whip Your Hair, so I'll still give the album 4 stars.

5.0 out of 5 stars JIMMY FALLON - BLOW YOUR PANTS OFF June 12, 2012
Format:Audio CD|Amazon Verified Purchase
My only complaint with the album is that the 15 tracks don't even clock in at 40 minutes. It would have been nice to get another 10+ tracks on the disc. There are a ton of other songs he has done on the show that sadly did not make the cut. This is just a minor issue because what is included is great.

History Of Rap is great since they had to license all of those songs for release on the album. Probably took up almost the entire album budget (and more!) with that, so they get a pass. But it would be cool if you when you bought the album you got a download card or something where you could get remixed/mastered MP3s of other songs from the show. Here's hoping for another release in the future!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Comedy Album June 27, 2012
Format:Audio CD
Jimmy Fallon does some great impressions, and his best ones are on this album. He performs as Neil Young, Bob Dylan and David Bowie.

The tv show themes he sings as Neil Young and The Doors are fantastic. Tebowie, a parody of Space Oddity, is hilarious. Friday, sang by Stephen Colbert, Roots, and Taylor Hicks was also pretty good.

Paul McCartney singing Scrambled Eggs w/ Jimmy is worth the price of admission alone.

My biggest complaint is all the tracks are live recordings. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing, I just wasn't expecting it. Also, I think Slow Jamming the news w/Brian Williams felt out of place on this CD. It's funny on the show, but doesn't blend in with the rest of this CD.

I loved Balls In Your Mouth when Fallon first performed it on the show. They should have included this version instead on the album, IMO. I thought it was more energetic and a bit funnier.

But, all-in-all, a pretty good album.

In this analogy, not only does Jimmy sing, but he has several of his musical guests offer some of their best songs.. Includes a duet with Stephen Colbert that is brilliant.

I thought this was a mix of skits or standup and songs, but turns out it is only songs. Most are very funny, some I've heard before. Overall it was okay but not a must have.

Where Should I Buy This?
What is your preference in purchase? the price or the extra tracks? I noticed on itunes that, most of the time, you're paying for the extra tracks anyway (and a digtal booklet) and you get free icloud storage forever (like Amazon). However, if you want a physical product, I suggest buying this... Read more
