Awesome release,

Its a worthwhile record of only 4 tracks. Though, I really only like the first 2 tracks...which others agree...they DO rock! If you haven't already, get American Thighs and Eight Arms To Hold You..well worth it to create a full "classic" Veruca Salt collection. Its a shame that Nina had to leave so soon...they were a great band.

Between American Thighs and Eight Arms to Hold You, VS released this little gem. Only 4 tracks long, this EP is a great snapshot of the band and their sound. The first two tracks really rock, with the first half of "I'm taking Europe with Me" has riffs reminiscent of Helmet before turning light. The last two tracks are on the softer side, with more of an American Thighs "25" feel. While the songs are great, they don't really have a uniqueness or "stand out" kind of feel. On the first listen, you get the feeling that you've already heard these songs, as they are very similar to tracks on American Thighs.

You'll dig this thing if you liked Veruca Salt's early Breeders-on-steroids sound better than their subsequent Louise "Lita Ford II" Post-led rawk posing. Released as a stop-gap measure between American Thighs and Eight Arms to Hold You, BIOYSIVS has four tracks, all featuring that awesome raw 'n dry Albini production. No, it's not for VS newbies (get American Thighs and the "Number One Blind" single first) but completists will want this EP for its oh-so-sexy sleeve and otherwise unreleased songs. 3.5 stars.
