4.0 out of 5 stars Not bad, but missing one important song
Where's "A Nation Once Again"? The song that Tommy Lee Jones plays to Jeff Bridges over the cell phone after blowing up his two friends. Should have made the soundtrack.

3.0 out of 5 stars Lacking an important piece
I enjoyed this soundtrack, but it would have received a higher rating if it would have included "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For" by U2. In my opinion this was one of the major songs of the movie, and should have been inclued. Although I will say that unless this is the only song you wanted to listen to, the soundtrack is still worth buying.

3.0 out of 5 stars Great soundtrack, but I wanted more of the Irish tunes played during the movie, September 29, 2008

Don't get me wrong. The Pogues are wonderful have loved them for years, but the movie had a lot more great Irish music than this CD. The tunes are good stuff, but I really wanted more of a mix of the Irish and American that is present in the film itself.

I love some of the groups on this album, having already gathered a fair few albums by The Sundays, The Pogues, U2, Joe Cocker. You CAN'T go wrong.

Shameless plug here for my favorite Pogues song "I'm A Man You Don't Meet Every Day" (sung by Cait O'Riorden - Rum, Sodomy and the Lash)

Unfortunately, what I was really hoping for is a clean recording of the stepped up version of "The Irish Washerwoman's Song" played during the wedding scene, and the "slow" version (same song) played at the beginning of the film, and some of the other great Celtic/Irish tunes. That was as much fun as St. Pat's at Rula Bula.

They also left off the 1812 overture played during the fireworks (Ironic, since the War of 1812 took place around the Great Lakes, as did the Fenian Raids in 1866 - 1871 (The IRA invaded CANADA from New York!!! HA!)

Over all, It is a great collection, but when the words "From" or "Inspired By" are tacked onto a soundtrack it is almost never what I am really hoping for. I'll just have to cap it off the DVD instead...

Slainte!

I Liked the fact that all the songs in the movie are in the soundtrack. Especially the one from the begining, overlooking Castle Gleigh....

I looked for months to find this "rare" soundtrack only to be disappointed in that the U2 piece (played with Tommy Lee dancing around in his bomb factory) was absent. I don't know the name of that particular song but feel that the CD lacks substance and entertainment quality because of it.
