5.0 out of 5 stars These Girls Can Rock HEAVY !!!!, July 25, 2007
By
Don (Long Island NY) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Blowin Up the Machine (Audio CD)
I heard of these ladies by searching out bands on myspace. I gave the songs they had on their myspace a listen and I said to myself I GOTTA GET THIS CD . This cd has 11 songs all of them are excellent hard rockin' songs . A stunningly georgeous and excellent metal guitarist in Michelle Meldrum , an excellent singer that can sing , growl or yell with the best of em . They are by far the best girl band I ever heard. I truly hope this cd sells well , because they are a talented band and they deserve the exposure . Do yourself a favor and give it a shot . I love this band ! THIS SHOULD BE ALBUM OF THE YEAR !!!!!!!!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Loud 'n' full faucet hard rock, May 20, 2011

This review is from: Blowin Up the Machine (Audio CD)
Named after Michelle Meldrum (guitar) and rounded out by Moa Holmsten (vox) and Frida Stahl (bass) this is an unmitigated hard rock album that makes no excuses for itself and very few prisoners. A power drenched recording helps things along nicely and really adds to the force with which the strong songs hit the listener, the feminine/feline roar of the lead vox battling it out with the in your face guitar assault for domination in a battle to the end.

Lyrics are generalist stuff with less to indicate this is an all-girl band as opposed to, say, Crucified Barbara. And the band to their credit see little excuse to temper their staunch assault with too much light and shade throughout the albums length though the mid paced chug of Crème de la Crème is an interesting juxtaposition when butted up against the earlier tracks such as Purge, Scar (a personal fave) and Exploited.

Lemmy makes a guest appearance on this album but on the track in question (Miss When I'm Gone) he is mixed so far back it's really just to provide some shade to the lyrical attack.

In the final analysis this is a powerfully recorded, heads bobbin' hard rock assault with little or no fat and a sampling of pretty much any of the tracks - though particularly any of the first four - should be enough to sell you on whether this particular style of hard rock is you cup of chai.
