I was decived by the description of the player. If you buy this player be aware that it is NOT a true BD player. It will not play commercial blu ray DvD. It will play regular DvDs and will burn on to blu ray but it will not play any of your favorite blu ray DvDs. I do not recomend this product!

Yes, you must provide your own bluray software for this nifty item.

It outshined my fancy $180 Toshiba player by playing "Spartacus Blood and Sand" for me through my laptop and onto my 55" LED LCD TV via HDMI with the superb quality of a blu ray player you would expect.

The hookup is plug and play and on my windows 7 laptop it worked great! For some reason it won't work on my Vista computer. :( I haven't had time to troubleshoot yet, but hopefully will get it working.

I would definitely recommend this to someone who wants a portable drive for a couple machines you own that need blu ray.

This is not plug and play. You have to get another peace of software in order to work with your computer. I have not been able to use it. I don't like it.

This product works great with my Dell XPS laptop. It does have specific spec requirements of a laptop in order to be compatible. Do not buy this if you have an older laptop. My XPS was bought in 2008 and it has HD capabilities. My previous Dell Inspiron (2006) does not have HD and this drive won't work on that type of model laptop. The technology on that laptop is not advanced enough for this ext drive.

That said, the set up was cake. Let the cd software run on your computer, entire process took about 10 mins or less. The two USB cables that come with it are for depending on your laptop capability, you may need the bigger USB (bigger on the end that connects into the external drive) in order to power it sufficiently. Just test it out and see which cable works better for your computer/laptop.

This item comes with media player software that you use with the drive to watch your movies. It's a great alternative companion to a laptop that doesn't have blu-ray installed and I'm able to watch my blu-ray's when I'm on the road. If that's what you need, this product is what you're looking for! Hope this helps.

This is not a Blu Ray Burner. This will play Blu Ray Discs once the Power DVD software is updated. This is the second drive I've purchased from Power Optical. And each time it seemd that the wording of the discription of the drives changed after I purchased them. I will not be ordering from Power Optical again.

It's a Blu-Ray player, that runs off of two USB ports; one for power and one for data. I had no problems with it, plugged it in and it worked like a champ.

I don't own this product, but wanted to comment on the 2 that I have seen here. They claim that this is not a BD player. Well, you need software for that, not unlike needing software to play commercial (bought) DVD's for your PC. So before adding comments without thinking about the entire picture is misleading customers. Yes, you do have to buy the software, but most come free with bundles when you buy a burner.

This drive is a total lemon. It will be detected by your OS, but it will not be able to read anything you put in it. I couldn't play or read DVD or blueray discs. Windows would show the contents of the disc, but when you tried to copy files it would say there was no disc in the drive. SLYSOFT anydvd couldn't rip a dvd with it (it too reported problems). VLC couldn't play a DVD with it either. Lame.

this product deliver 175% i am so happy i got it. the prize is right . i copy my movies in no time . i would buy from them again . i recommend this to others.

To play blu-ray, you've got to spend another hundred bucks for upgrade to the provided software. Heck, I can play DVDs on my computer without anything else.
My son-in-law wants to use this as an extra CD burner, so I'm giving it to him.
