5.0 out of 5 stars BD Player for laptop
I needed a Blu-Ray player for my laptop (Sony) with a 1080p display. This unit did not disappoint me. I used the external USP port even though it comes with an eSATA connection. It is faster than the DVD that is in my laptop. The unit comes with Cyberlink PowerDVD disc. I purchased this software earlier so, I could have saved this purchase if I had known that the...

3.0 out of 5 stars Blurry hd player
Never was able to use this since it has too many requirements for it to work than what was described. I cannot return since its nonreturnable so I am stuck with an unusable expensive player!

5.0 out of 5 stars EZ and XLNT, April 16, 2009

I bought this unit because it was rated to work with Vista, and because of Amazon's excellent return policy. I didn't know it would be so challenging to watch Hi-Def content on a PC. The gotcha's here are the following: you need the right kind of PC, the right kind of Video Card, the right kind of monitor. If you are a power user with recent gear, you should be fine. But be prepared to download a ton of drivers.

I had to get the latest NVIDIA and CyberLink drivers, plus some others they grabbed along the way. I started by creating restore point. 40 minutes later, after all the downloads and restarts, I ran the furnished HI-DEF advisor, and I got all greenlights on both Blu-Ray and HD-DVD hi-def content.

The great news: my HD and BD titles played great. As I said it took 40 minutes. This unit worked perfectly. I love it!

Great unit, has not produced a coaster yet.ESata or USB record speeds are the same (40x for cd,16x for dvd-r).Please don't be confused by the review that says this unit records Blu Ray.IT DOES NOT record Blu Ray discs, will only play them, which is fine because that's what it's supposed to do.

i use it for esata so i dont know how it works with usb.

i like it, it plays all my blu rays with no problem, i burn dvds and cds just fine, i havent tried burning a blu-ray so i cant rate that feature. this is a good way to add a sata device without opening the case
