At the time of this review, cd cover has yet to reveal itself. This out of print cd, which is the reissue of the original album, was released in 1991 by a small, Calif. based label, Valley Vue Records. The cds currently availble are it. The album is titled "The Blue Album" but, it could easily now be called "The Lost Album". When inquiries come up about those remembering songs with Sharon Paige & the Blue Notes, this is the album the songs are on. The cover is actually white and blue and reads "Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes" and just below that "Featuring Sharon Paige". To the writer it was the last excellent album released by H. Melvin's group. Does one recall Sharon Paige doing "Tonight's The Night"? The original album was produced in Philadelphia. Source Records believed enough in H. Melvin & his Blue Notes to back them to album release. Keep in mind that once Teddy Pendergrass left the group, for a solo career, Philly Intl. Records unceremoniously released Harold and the remaining group members. It wasn't the easiest going for the group and changing members thereafter. If listening to urban radio stations during time of this release, how can one not remember the now sought after song "I Should Be Your Lover"? Recall the verse.... "your body's by Fisher, but your mind's by Mattell.....oh-h IIIIHHHH,I should be your lover, ya sho nuff lover......ya come to me..... We thank Valley Vue Records for realizing this "lost" H. Melvin & The Blue Notes album warranted cd reissue, in 1991 it was done! The Source Records album and the Valley Vue cd are out of print collectible recordings. Listening to "I Should Be Your Lover" on remastered cd....Whoa-hhhh! Once the few remaining copies of this cd are gone, soul music collectors will be the losers. The album featuring Sharon Paige? This is it! It's Buy Time.

In response to mr blackshear great review for a great album but you forgot the mega hit on r&b top 40 radio PRAYING.A song in which the new lead singer is trying hard to sound like teddy pendergrass.I have the album still and you are right sharon page tonights the night(a disco song)is a good dance song.I should be your lover is the jam but i must say praying is the best song on that album. The very next album was reaching for the world another album that is hard to find the sharon page song that album is, he,s loves you, a great song along with the title cut reaching for the world. Hopefuly someone will re release these classic albums on cd along with the to be true album another cd thats hard to find.If you are one of those few lucky people that have these three classic albums(i do)enjoy!

I remember being a pre-teen and my parents having this album. I wasn't really familiar with any of the tracks except "Prayin'", where David Ebo (I think) tries to channel his inner Teddy Pendergrass. Anyway, we were in the family car one night and WDAS played this slow jam called "I Should Be Your Lover." I was taken by the melody and harmonizing and was delighted when the DJ said it was from the same album my parents owned. I also remember getting in trouble for playing that song so much that I scratched the album...
Valley Vue records released this on CD (and the disc even advertises that it was available for the first time ever on the front!). It was part of a trend that we've gotten used to--a small-time, sometimes no-name company releases an "Ol' Skool" album on CD and ceases production after a few hundred (or thousand) copies either because they want to stay one step ahead of whoever holds the licensing rights or whoever does hold the rights finds out and threatens to sue them. In either case, they usually haven't gone through the mundane proper channels to acquire the rights. This is why they quickly become "collectors' items". "Tonight's The Night" was the disco hit featuring Sharon Paige, but "I Should Be Your Lover" has stood the test of time as a slow-jam classic. The only other cheap ways you can get this song on CD now is if you purchase one of the WDAS Classic Soul compilations (it's on Volume 3, by the way) or if you purchase a compilation CD called "Soul Searchin'" which is a kind of sampler by Valley Vue that showcases some of their reissues, most of which are now nearly impossible to get. But if you're a true collector like me, you'll want to purchase the original album on CD. Based on some of the prices I've seen, you might have to wait until tax refund time. Just sayin'. However, if you already own a copy, pat yourself on the back--you've earned it.

Wowwww! I was a kid when this album was released, but I remember hearing these songs played on the local radio station (101.3) WWDM on the FM dial in Sumter, SC. What memories ... Anyway, I have had just the hardest time finding any of these songs on any CD anywhere ... Finally found a new copy of the album on CD for [..].
If you are looking to purchase this, good luck finding a copy at a reasonable price because there are very few copies of this CD available for sale and they ain't cheap. Very good album, though.

ok, i may have been 10 or so when this came out, but I recall we had this Album, and all the grown ups playing the entire album it was like 7 songs, most of them where very long (over 6 minutes). I loved prayin, and Tonight! they where my jams. Glad i found this CD, as it's very rare.
