Mildred Bailey's 1940's sessions with Ellis Larkins' Trio!, September 24, 2000
This review is from: The Blue Angel Years 1945-1947 (Audio CD)
This wonderful CD has most of legendary jazz singer Mildred Bailey's studio recordings in the 1940's, most of them with The Ellis Larkins Trio(who also recorded on sesisons with Ella Fitzgerald, and Lee Wilay). Some classic versions of "Summertime" "More Then You Know" and a version of "I'll Close My Eyes" which will bring you to tears(a song that was actually a hot for her during WWII). This CD shows why Mildred Baliey's voice just improved from the 30's, in the 40's she could sing a ballad and mave you to tears as where in the 30's she'd sing a swing tune, and she's get you to snap you're fingers or get up and do the lindy hop. Bailey's voice had more emotiona and she felt what she was singing. This CD is hihly recommended to her fans.
