The Blue Balloon-What does it mean?,
By joan collins (lock haven, pennsylvania) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Blue Balloon (Library Binding)
After reading The Blue Balloon by Frank Asch, I asked myself over and over again, what exactly was this book about? I wonder if the book has some connection with the Vietnam Era (published, 1971)? Why is the balloon green and not blue? It is difficult to pinpoint the plot or purpose of the story. It is my opinion, that the book is not appropriate for young children because of this. I also found it especially disturbing when the main character enters the scene with a gun. what is that telling our children? I guess, I simply do not understand the whole structure or purpose of this book. Can anyone explain? I value Frank Asch as a writer and he has written many wonderful books that are on my children's shelves, as well as, the shelves in my classroom. But, this book has me baffled!

Greatest Book Ever,
This review is from: The Blue Balloon (Library Binding)
After reading this book two simple words came to mind-- literary genius. The plot takes a dramatic twist when the naked boy pulls his heater on the unsuspecting balloon. Perfect for children of all ages.
