5.0 out of 5 stars Two thumbs up, October 26, 2001

I am in agreement with the first reviewer. I have purchased and enjoyed this CD and their previous offering, Recquiem. When I listened to Requiem, I thought the musical accompaniment was less than satisfactory for such high quality singing and I was also disappointed that there were no songs which showcased the other fine voices so strongly tauted on the cover. Both of these concerns have been amply remedied in this offering. This CD is already one of my favorites. The only complaints I have are that the cover booklet is almost useless, giving very little information about this talented group of boy singers or the music they bring to such vibrant life, and that there are so few CD's from this group available. I eagarly await thier next offering.

OUTSATNDING --- I have been a fan of Boys Choir music for some time now and own some of the best in the world. The tonal quality and harmonics of the young male voice is unmatched for beauty. This album is no exception the performance is breathtaking. It is just stunning!

BUY IT NOW!

For those who really enjoy this, I would recommend the Jeremy Budd in "Hear my Prayer" another outstanding treble voice. In addition, I suggest the British Columbia Boys Choir for your listening pleasure.

5.0 out of 5 stars Words escape me..., April 26, 2002

Wow. This recording simply knocked me off my feet the first time I heard it. It is a superb example of treble singing. The pieces are very well chosen and arranged. My top favorite is the "O for the wings of a dove" which is surely a classic masterpiece and brings a tear to my eye every time I listen to it. The piece is perfect for showing off the vocal talent of Edward Burrowes and brings out every subtle nuance of his beautiful voice. It simply must be heard, and is quite beyond words. I would even go so far as to say it is a better performance than the highly acclaimed 1923 performance by Ernest Lough and the Temple Church choir.

5.0 out of 5 stars pretty intense, December 13, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Blue Bird (Audio CD)
This is quite a record, and in my opinion much more effective than its rather experimental predecessor, "Requiem" (though there have been other Boys Air Choir cds released in Japan). The arrangements are considerably more effective, with accompaniment not limited to synthesizer (as on "Requiem"), not annoying to those familiar with more traditional arrangements (esp. the Faure on "Requiem"), and considerably more harmonious with the breathy quality of the English boy choir style. Edward Burrowes, the principle soloist, has that classic "talking bell" sound, much more hollow and round than his elder brother Connor's vibrato (which suited itself much more, as a solo voice, to spare and less "ethereal" arrangements, as on "A Quiet Conscience"), and this set of songs and arrangements makes the most of his stunning tone. No sense of any "new age" going on here (except perhaps for the misty cover art...). Particularly suprizing are the eerie processed vocal in the Misere, and the knife-edged sweetness of "Sleep Song". Only "Diathenia" is at all awkward; the song is just too stiff a composition for my taste, not evocative. But the rest is out of this world.

This review is from: Blue Bird (Audio CD)
After receiving Traumland as a gift I purchased Blue Bird. I was intriged. This cd should get 10 stars for the sheer beauty of the voices. I was captivated by this enchanting cd and played it over and over.
I really enjoyed this one and you will too.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ethereal, Crystaline, February 20, 2006
This review is from: Blue Bird (Audio CD)
Like with Libera, I can't help to think every time I listen to it, is this what heaven sounds like? It's ethereal, it's beautiful, magical, it cleanses and renews your soul. If you close your eyes, you can dream that you've gone to heaven.
