Patience will win you over,

This cd shows off the band's, who is now known as just Kilgore, talent. I dont really have time to go into great detail, but each song is worth listening to. But please be patient...this cd wont come out and smack you in the face. Even though its quite heavy, its very gracious. My favorite song from it is "Trial". Enjoy this cd.

Best Metal. Period!,

I got a bootleg tape of these guys (Stain) off of a friend from Rhode Island when this band was a regional act. I played that tape until it broke (4 different times!). Now that I have nowhere else to turn for good music, since pretty-much every nu-metal band sucks sausage, I did a search to find these guys again. These guys are pure rage, but with talent and direction...A very rare find in this genre. Just think, my older friends were hanging out when Smudge/Stain was playing in their garage in RI!Good to see some of the old cuts I missed so much. A MUST BUY...

Never thought that kilgore was this good back then, man' these guys rule! This album has the same intensity (and deep f**ckin' lyrics) as search for reason.........and the only thing that i could say is.if you haven't heard from this guys before buy this album, and if you already own a search for reason, this album will put a stupid smile on your face for a long time....BUY IT! IT'S WORTH EVERY PENNY!

Kilgore (Smudge) lasted about an eyeblink in terms of music careers, but this album and "A Search For Reason" are incredible finds if you like hard rock/ metal that isn't hewn to the standard formula.
I first heard them on WSOU, back when it played metal and had a real music department, and kept catching stuff from "Blue Collar Solitude". Ran over to Vintage Vinyl and scored me the CD, and just blew up at how good it was. It was a front to back winner, made me real glad I had 'SOU in my neighborhood. Understandably, the material is slightly dated but it holds up very well, especially if you consider what constitutes metal today. Jay Berndt, you'll swear, is three different singers on this album, and his lyrics are not fluffy or light. There's just hook after hook on this CD, and it's worth whatever you paid. Fred

Killer Metal Album,

Kilgore Smudge (later known as Kilgore) put out a really great metal album in Blue Collar Solitude. The vocals are awesome and the music really kicks. I can't keep myself from bobbing my head and sometimes fully headbanging. My favorite track is Senorita Beefeater. Overall, I think B.C.S. is a more consistant album than their later release "A Search For Reason." I highly recommend this album to anyone who is into very good but very underrated metal. Where did these guys go?

The Kilgore Story,
By A Customer
This review is from: Blue Collar Solitude (Audio CD)
Hi, These guys are good friends of mine. These guy's know how to rock on the heavy side. When they first started they came out with a cassette tape in 1993 then they were called Smudge, It had ten killer heavy tracks on it. Then in 1994 they came out with another cassette tape. The band changed there name to Stain, This had six great metal tracks on it. Then they were signed to Warner Brothers Unsound records. changed there name to Kilgore Smudge. The Cd was called Blue Collar Solitude, They took some songs from both cassettes and wrote some new ones for the record Label. The songs that were rejected are killer songs but weren't good enough for the record company. (I have enough rejected songs to do another Cd.) Then they came out with the second cd again changing there name to Kilgore, Cd was called A Search For Reason. The band was sounding great they went on tour on the Ozzy fest. They did a cover song called Walk by Pantera on a ECW cd in the USA and a different cover on the Japan ECW cd called Black Dog by Led Zeppelin. They did a couple of videos for Hangtime and Walk. Then the singer quit the band for stupid reasons. So Kilgore did a five song demo with a new singer and it sounded good. The record Label didn't like it. The band couldn't find a singer so they broke up. But keep in touch.. A great band gone.

Pick this CD up!,

Kilgore is one of the hardcore/metal best bands out there right now. This is their first album (they dropped the Smudge between albums) and it is full of solid songs that just rock. The songs are brutal, melodic, and well written. If you're looking for something worth your money, pick up this CD and Kilgore's last CD "A Search For Reason"

Kilgore's first album kicks!,
This review is from: Blue Collar Solitude (Audio CD)
Hey, it's Kilgore before they shortened their name. It's nice and heavy like their second album and i think the lyrics are even more insightful. Jay's voice is awesome. The only disappointing thing about this album is the recording quality, especially track 3. It sounds like they're playing across the room from their mikes. It's really a cool song too, it reminds me of the Foo Fighters "Everlong". Otherwise, solid metal with intelligent lyrics. If you got hooked on "A Search for Reason", you'll like this one too.
