2.0 out of 5 stars They're capable of so much more
The Corrs are great. Their popularity in the rest of the world is well earned. But listening to this cd, I wouldn't blame anyone for never listening to them again.

This cd is extremely repetitive. It in unoriginal, typical American pop, boring. One or two stand out songs are catchy and worth a listen. Breathless and No More Cry are catchy.

Part of the problem with...

It's a wonder the Corrs haven't yet broken into the United States yet, with only a handful of other people who have had the opportunity to get to know (and ultimately love) the Corrs, it's hard to believe that a band that can achieve so much success around the world hasn't yet made its impact on us.

That being said, "In Blue" is a great album. Andrea's voice once again never fails to float in the air and hang above your head in a misty haze, even with more fast paced dance-type songs like "Give Me a Reason."

As always, the Corrs display their unique style, combining the sounds of guitar, violin, drums and tin whistle, each contributed by Jim, Sharon, Caroline, and Andrea, respectively. The songs themselves range from upbeat ("Say," "Breathless") to mellow and hauntingly beautiful ("Remember," "Somebody for Someone," "One Night"), not skipping a beat by adding in an exceptional instrumental track, "Rebel Heart."

The Corrs are a type of band you can randomly listen to on the radio and recognize. Their music can help you fall asleep and sit up and listen attentively at the same time. They combine aspects of pop, rock, and Irish sounds and manage to blend them together as only they can. How can you not take notice of the wonderful Corrs? They're one of my favorite groups, among the Beatles, No Use for a Name, the Ataris, and Nina Gordon.

I highly suggest you buy this album, umm.. NOW, and while you're at the store, pick up "Talk on Corners" [listen to "What Can I Do" and "Queen of Hollywood"], "Forgiven, Not Forgotten" [check out "Runaway" and "Closer"] and don't forget to listen to "Unplugged." The quality of the music is amazing, as are the Corrs themselves.

5.0 out of 5 stars Go on, go on....Leave me breathless!, November 3, 2000

Rodrigo Medina (Rio de Janeiro, Rio de Janeiro Brazil) - See all my reviews
This review is from: In Blue (Audio CD)
IN BLUE is the third studio album of The Corrs, which is a very popular irish band around the world. For those who have never heard about them, the Corrs are known for their wonderful talent as well as for the quality of their songs, which are a perfect combination between celtic music and pop.

IN BLUE is already a top seller everywhere, including US. It is surely different from other CDs of this band, since it does not bring the irish tradition identified in the their previous works.

Produced by Mutt Lange (Shania Twain's husband), In Blue has all the elements to please pop listeners. "Breathless" and "Irresistible" --the first 2 singles -- are cool tracks. The balads worth to be praised as well: "all the love in the world", "one night" and "somebody for someone". "No more cry" is one of my favorites, in spite of the fact that it is a very sad song, dedicated to Jean Corr, their mother, who unfortunately died of cancer during the recording process.

Summing up, if you appreciate good music, buy this CD!

5.0 out of 5 stars Advanced features only play on DVD AUDIO, not DVD VIDEO, February 19, 2001
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Great album... the Corrs are one of the finest groups out there, and it's really a shame they are not as huge in the US as they are in the rest of the world. I'm not going to review this album because you can read them in the regular CD versions, but I do want to point out some features on this DVD AUDIO version that the description doesn't cover.

First off, this DVD AUDIO has three audio versions you can play it in: 1) Advanced resolution 24-bit/96 KHz discreet 6 channel Surround Sound, 2) Advanced Resolution Stereo, and 3)Dolby Digital Surround Sound.

HOWEVER, you can only access the first two options with a DVD AUDIO compatible player. If your DVD player only has a DVD VIDEO logo, use can't utilize the Advanced resolution options.

Second, it contains the music video for Breathless, which is great. It's not real obvious how to find it on the disc if you're playing in DVD VIDEO mode, but to access it you need to go Chapter 2 Track 1.

Lastly, it contains a photo gallery, lyrics, discography, and song commentary which are only accesible through the DVD AUDIO.

If you have DVD AUDIO, I highly recommend this album!

4.0 out of 5 stars The dawning of Irish Folk Pop yet again?, September 12, 2000
This review is from: In Blue (Audio CD)
I have not always been a Corrs fan, but lets be honest, you hardly get a collection of prettier sisters (and brother) on the cover a CD. This was my first attraction to The Corrs, and then I listened to UNPLUGGED, and was an immediate fan. With the release of IN BLUE, I had some mixed feelings, but believe me; this album does grow on you! The highlights on this album are:

BREATHLESS: High energy, incredibly catchy pop tune. It will manage to put a smile on your face.

GIVE ME A REASON: A mid tempo song in which The Corrs demonstrate that they have lost none of their Irish ness!

SOMEBODY FOR SOMEONE: A melancholy tune about a girl crying out for love.

SAY: Not my favourite Corrs song, as this has too much of a pop injection.

ALL THE LOVE IN THE WORLD: Another melancholy song about loneliness, this will definitely pull your heartstrings.

RADIO: Wow, this is my favourite remix of Radio. Chris Rea would have been proud of those guitar riffs.

IRRESISTIBLE: Up-tempo pop. Enough said.

ONE NIGHT: This has to be my new favourite Corrs song. Gosh, this has been produced beautifully; it will definitely put you in the mood for love. Ok, so the song is a wee bit superficial and cheesy, but cheese is good!

ALL IN A DAY: Mediocre attempt, it proves to be disappointing. AT YOUR SIDE: You all know this song, now here is the studio version. Personally, I still prefer the Unplugged version.

NO MORE CRY: I enjoy this up-tempo song, not a typical Corrs song, as it has a strong sixties influence.

RAIN: This is another mediocre mid-tempo offering, not memorable at all.

GIVE IT ALL UP: Ok, there is no way you can make reggae and Irish folk music work together. What where they thinking?

HURT BEFORE: This is a beautiful love song, guaranteed to get you humming along.

REBEL HEART: Amazing Irish folk instrumental. Sharon exceeds with the violin in this piece. I can listen to this song over and over.

On the whole, I feel that the album is a bit "overproduced", and perhaps The Corrs have become too mainstream, but nonetheless, they are incredibly talented and it makes IN BLUE a worthwhile purchase.

5.0 out of 5 stars I give it my highest rating!, June 14, 2004
This review is from: In Blue (Audio CD)
The Corrs are an authentic Irish band, composed of three sisters and a brother, from Dundalk, Ireland. Jim Corr plays guitar and keyboard, Sharon plays the violin, Caroline plays the drums and Bodhran (frame drum), and Andrea plays the tin whistle and is the group's lead singer. Not only good looking, these young people are extremely talented, known for their unique blend of traditional Irish music and modern pop.

Their album, Forgiven Not Forgotten (a personal favorite!) has a lot of that great Irish sound, while this one leans more heavily towards the pop side! Heck, the first track is their smash hit, Breathless! I loved that song, but my favorite is Somebody For Someone, which is very nice. Sister Andrea has a great singing voice - in the tune Rain (track 12), I swear that if I close my eyes, I could imagine that it is Karen Carpenter singing (I loved the Carpenters). But, in all of the rest of the tunes, her voice is definitely her own, which is wonderful to hear.

So, if you like pop music and you like Irish music, then I would say that this CD is for you. As for me, I give it my highest rating!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Tunes, March 22, 2001
This review is from: In Blue (Audio CD)
One night I stayed up a little late to watch Jay Leno and he had on these guys, The Corrs. I didn't have anything else to do so I watched--they played "Breathless" which after a few minutes really began to make me think "Wow, this song is catchy--I like it!" I remembered their name from Leno and came here, to Amazon.com to review some song clips--what I heard I LIKED so I went out and bought In Blue. I Love It!!! These guys are seriously one of my favorite bands now!! Through a totally freak stumbling over the band--I hadn't even HEARD of them until I saw them on TV.

This album has some GREAT tunes on it:

Breathless-- Great song, it's one of those tunes that refuses to leave your head after you've heard it

Give Me A Reason-- Very raw and the mood changes throughout

Somebody for Someone-- Very sentimental...what can I say, I'm a softy!

Radio-- Catchy and upbeat

At Your Side-- Entertaining but not my favorite

No More Cry-- VERY catchy, another song that refuses to dislodge itself from your brain!

Great Tunes!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Strong throughout, January 2, 2001
This review is from: In Blue (Audio CD)
I bought the CD solely on the strength of "Breathless", having heard it on the radio. The rest of the album was excellent as well. A great combination of traditional irish music with an upbeat pop mix.

Many of the songs get your feet tapping and many will tug at your heartstrings a bit. A great album.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very impressed! CD left me 'breathless' as well!, October 12, 2000

"tsans777" (the Jersey Shore.) - See all my reviews
This review is from: In Blue (Audio CD)
I had heard the Corrs a few years ago at my step-mums house. The song she was playing was very Irish sounding and I just dismissed it as being Irish folk music that she always listened to. I wish I would've listened a bit closer. I didn't realize that they also had more 'pop' and 'rock' songs until recently. ___I saw a free publication called 'Liner Notes' and the Corrs were on the front cover. I have to admit that the first impression about the girls were based off of their looks. They are beautiful! After reading the feature article, I was very impressed about what they had to say and I went out and bought this CD. I played the CD on my way home from the record shop and at least 3 more times that night. 'Breathless' was such a well written song that I listened to it twice in the car. ___If 'Breathless' doesn't break here in the US, the listening audience has no idea what good music is. As I listened to each track on the cd, I was captivated by Andrea Corr's voice. The other girls sing fantastic, as well. The backround vocals on songs like 'Irrestible' and 'At your side' are perfect. Jim Corr's guitar playing lends itself to just what the songs require. Caroline's drumming is solid and sounds big. Sharon's violin weeps with emotion and jigs like a pro. The lyrics tell very nice stories and don't leave you guessing about what is being sung. ___Being a musician/guitarist myself, it's very rare that I find music that I would learn to play. I've learned a few of the tracks on this CD. That just means I like the songs that much. It's too bad that the Corrs aren't as popular here in the states as in other parts of the world. That's probably another reason why I like them. It's not everyday here in America that I could hear music such as this. The Corrs are a refreshing delight that will keep me listening. I'll have to catch them on their next visit. It may not be for a while, though. That just gives me an excuse to take a vacation to the UK to see them in concert...Cheers!!

4.0 out of 5 stars A hypnotic blend of voices and melody, November 14, 2000
By
This review is from: In Blue (Audio CD)
The Corrs seem to be veering a bit toward the middle of the road with this, their third studio CD, but that's not a problem for me. I wasn't overly familiar with their music until I heard "Breathless," which caught my attention immediately. The amazingly catchy melody and vocal harmonies stick in your brain after one listen. Nothing else on the CD is quite as upbeat as this first single, but that isn't necessarily a liability, as "Breathless" seems a bit like an anomoly in their catalog. The rest of the album is more subdued and thoughtful, with the melodies being a bit more subtle and haunting. Entertainment Weekly's reviewer condemned the CD, saying it sounded like "Wilson O'Phillips", but I'm not necessarily sure that's a bad thing. Cool it may not be, but if you're a fan of melodic pop with lots of harmonies, you won't be disappointed.

4.0 out of 5 stars They're still Irish, right?, March 20, 2002
This review is from: In Blue (Audio CD)
Except for the gorgeous "Rebel Heart" that ends the album, there's virtually nothing here to indicate their heritage. I was introduced to The Coors via the Pay-Per-View special from cable last year. Besides being mesmerized at the sight of the three talented sisters, their ability to crank out one great pop tune after another that was heavy in Irish influences made them an instant favorite. It's a real disappointment that a more homogenized sound had to be created for this album.

HOWEVER, that doesn't mean it's bad. Far from it. For starters, the incredible "Breathless" joins the small club of songs that I can play over and over and over again and never get tired of. Their claim to fame is forever sealed with this song.

The rest of the album ranges from decent to exceptional. Practically every song has some kind of good hook in it. It took a few listenings to get over the disappointment of the watered-down sound, but they do stand up on their own.

Please. Please. Put more Irish influences in the next collection.
