Dr Michael White is a wonderful musician who has recaptured the classical style of New Orleans clarinetists. He has recreated something from the time of the birth of Jazz.

Pure New Orleans Jazz,
By George WH (Florida) - See all my reviews

This is my second CD by the New Orleans born artist. "Back up" band members are first class also. The music gives one a true feel of the Crescent City without studio and recording over production. If you like NO jazz, this is it.

I first came across Dr Michael White on the Jazz Crusade Label "Praying & Swaying AT THE" CROSS" volume 1. The inner play between White and Gregg Stafford was music to any jazz fan's
ears. It was soulful, reverent and "heavenly." The cuts on Basin Street Record's "Dancing in the Sky" was more swinging and the inter play between White and Stafford didn't seem to me to be as smooth. This may have been due to the larger number of sidemen in the "Dancing in the Sky" cuts. But my ears tell me that the Jazz Crusade's arrangements were the real difference.
