I got this the 1st day it came out. I was soo excited about the movie so I was all fanatic about it! When I heard it, it was OFF THE HOOK! I was amazed at how good it was!

1. Lenny Kravitz - If I Could Fall In Love (5/5)
This song was the title song off the album. It is soo good. It totally fits the movie. If you like any kind of rock, you'll like this. Good...

3.0 out of 5 stars No POD
I was very disappointed POD's song was not on the album. I also liked it in the previews.

5.0 out of 5 stars This CD is Awesome!, August 18, 2002
This review is from: Blue Crush (Audio CD)
I got this the 1st day it came out. I was soo excited about the movie so I was all fanatic about it! When I heard it, it was OFF THE HOOK! I was amazed at how good it was!

1. Lenny Kravitz - If I Could Fall In Love (5/5)
This song was the title song off the album. It is soo good. It totally fits the movie. If you like any kind of rock, you'll like this. Good vocals. Hella good beat.

2. N.E.R.D. - Rock star (Jason Nevins Remix Edit) (5.5/5)
I thought this song was better than the original! It has a techno vibe to it. It was played in the party scene of the movie. This is a song you can definitely dance to. Best dance song on the album. Good vocals. Awesome beat.

3. Beenie Man - Party Hard (4.5/5)
This song has a good beat. Good vocals and gets you in the dancey-ish mood. Awesome for parties.

4. Blestination - Cruel Summer (Blestination Mix) (5.5/5)
One of my favorite songs off the album! This song makes you wanna get up and dance like you never danced before! It has rap verses and the chorus is the song. It's soo good. If you've seen the trailer for Blue Crush, you should hear this song. Good vocals. Awesome beat.

5. Chicken - Big Love (4/5)
This is a slower song from the first few. But it's still good. The vocals are alright. But the beat is good.

6. Beth Orton - Daybreaker (4.5/5)
A slow, freaky sounding song. It's awesome though. The beginning might {scare} you a bit when she starts singing, but the song is awesome. Good vocals and good rhythm.

7.Nikka Costa - Everybody Got Their Something (5.5/5)
To tell you the truth, I hated Nikka Costa before I heard this song. I thought she was annoying, but after I heard this song, I was like "Maybe I should give her another listen." So I did, and I actually really like her music. This song is my favorite song from the album. Something you can dance too. Not too fast, but not too slow. Awesome vocals, great beat. Good message too.

8. Playgroup - Front 2 Back (Fatboy Slim Remix) (4/5)
This song is good. Something you can sing and dance to. Cool vocals, awesome beat.

9. Damian Marley - And Be Loved (4/5)
This song is something you can dance to. Not my favorite but I still like it. Puts you in the summer feeling. Good beat. Vocals are alright.

10. Zero 7 - Destiny (5.5/5)
This song is the best slow song on this album. If you've heard the Roswell album, this song is also on there. It's very soothing and relaxing. Something to relax you while you lay by your swimming pool, getting a tan or something. Awesome vocals. Very very nice rhythm and beat.

11. Doves - Firesuite (5/5)
This song is the instrumental one of the album. Soft rock. Awesome beat and very good rhythm. It's a song you can relax to you while you're getting your tan on. Soft, but soothing vocals. Not very much though. But it's still amazing. Nice work by the Doves.

So you see, this is this summer's BEST ALBUM. It's definitely essential to all the CD collectors and music lovers out there. You've got your mix of dance, soft-rock, and rock right on this album. You should go watch the movie too! They are both essential to every summer lover. Get this album! It is a must-have! I'm sad I couldn't rate it any higher than a 5 or I would. This is the best summer soundtrack yet. If you love this movie, you'll love this. If you didn't, the music is still good.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Soundtrack, August 25, 2002
By
cinemagirl (Los Angeles, CA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Blue Crush (Audio CD)
The trailer of "Blue Crush" uses Blestenation's mix of "Cruel Summer." The first few seconds of one of the trailers shows surfers riding the waves to the song.

If people are put off by any preconceptions of the soundtrack ("Oh, man, don't tell me -- Beach Boys songs!"), they might be pleasantly surprised by the mix here. The music for "Blue Crush" is eclectic and, if surf music's not your thing, there are other favorable tracks on this album.

The "star" song seems to be Lenny Kravitz's "If I Could Fall In Love," a loud and catchy rock song, but I found many of the unknown-to-me musicians to be equally deserving, if not more, of the single. N.E.R.D.'s "Rock Star" appears as a remix, improving a slow, monotonous track to an upbeat techno / dance song. Starting off the reggae theme is Beenie Man's "Party Hard," which segues midway to more of a typical R&B piece, suitable mid-tempo play for a party. The aforementioned Blestenation mix of "Cruel Summer" is a perfect party or workout track, the most energetic and radio-friendly song of the collection. Chicken, whoever they are, are sure to find fame if they continue with songs like "Big Love," one of the best tracks on the soundtrack. With a contagious reggae beat and sexy male vocals, this song sets the summer beat. Next comes the ethereal Beth Orton, who is claiming fame for her Dido-esque vocals. "Daybreaker" may seem out of place at first, but its soul-baring and whimsical lyrics make this an interesting addition. Playgroup's "Front 2 Back" is a bouncy dance track, which is somewhat similar to "Party Hard." The film opens with the main character, Anne-Marie, waking up to Damian Marley's "And Be Loved," a cover of a Marley reggae song; the song is repeated later in the film for good reason -- it's a classic, and this version does it justice. Zero 7's "Destiny," a slow trip hop song reminiscent of the Sneaker Pimps or Portishead, and The Doves' Zen-like and instrumental (e.g., surf guitars) "Firesuite" end the album on a soft and chill out note.

In general, this is a surprisingly complete and apt album for the summer. Like reggae, pop, dance, rock, rap, or techno? They are all here in one form or another. Even if the film doesn't appeal to you, the soundtrack, featuring some talented unknowns, will have you in summer vacay vibe long after the temperature has dropped.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome, September 16, 2002

This soundtrack is much cooler than I expected. I bought it for the Blestenation remix, which is great to dance to in the car :), but there's a whole mix of stuff on here and nearly every one is great. My particular favorites are Daybreaker by Beth Orton, the N.E.R.D. remix, Front 2 Back by Playgroup, Everybody Got Their Something by Nikka Costa, and Destiny by Zero 7. I've never really listened to much reggae, but I like what's on this album. I personally don't care for the Lenny Kravitz song, but that's pretty much my only complaint. Oh, and also that they didn't include "Alive" by P.O.D., which they played in the preview for the movie, on this CD - I hate when they do that :P. Otherwise, I think this is an awesome album.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not bad!, August 12, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Blue Crush (Audio CD)
I recently bought this CD for a couple of songs in the movie that I really liked. I was very disappointed to find that one in particular was not included in this soundtrack (POD's "Youth of the Nation")

Overall, it is a great mix of artists and songs. While it is a a soundtrack for a surfing movie, it is a far cry from the old Beach Boys or Jan & Dean genre.

Nice job!

5.0 out of 5 stars *****!BEST SOUNDTRACK EVER!*****, May 28, 2005
This review is from: Blue Crush (Audio CD)
This has got to be the Best Soundtrack I've heard so far. Normally with some Soundtracks, you get the odd songs that aren't worth listening to. But with Blue Crush, EVERY SONG is WiCkEd!!
There's a variety of awesome mixes of Rock-fast beat, and chilled-relaxed tunes that make you crank up the stereo! This CD would be even better if it had included more songs (eg. Youth of the Nation, POD)
The movie is also definately worth checking out!! -Comedy and some surfing action that just makes you wanna get out there and surf!!

4.0 out of 5 stars a few corrections to other reviews, September 11, 2002
This review is from: Blue Crush (Audio CD)
Bob Marley tracks: #5 "Big Love" performed by Chicken and #9 credited to Damian Marley (Bob's son).

Additionally, the Blestenation "Cruel Summer" mix does NOT feature Ace of Bass' original version because the original version of that song was performed by the 80s group Bananarama (they're even mentioned in the Blestenation lyrics) of "Venus" fame.

I do wish the producers had arranged for POD's "Youth of the Nation" to be included, hence the 4 stars.

5.0 out of 5 stars Blue Crush soundtrack, December 29, 2003
By
This review is from: Blue Crush (Audio CD)
I bought this after seeing the movie and enjoying the hot Jamaican beats and fun surfer music. This soundtrack is probably one of the best out there, creating an experience that makes you feel as if you're in the movie, or easily recreates the whole movie for you. The trip-pop songs are fun and timeless-perfect for a day at the beach or a pool party. It was disappointing that P.O.D. "Youth of the Nation" was not on the soundtrack, but this minor flaw is masked by other superior songs.

5.0 out of 5 stars do NOT start your summer without it!!!, May 3, 2005
This review is from: Blue Crush (Audio CD)
When I first saw Blue Crush, the first thing I noticed was the fact that the music credits featured were mostly artists I've never even heard of. I recently went to the mall and chanced upon the CD and took it to the listening booth and found it very eclectic with different genres jammed together. Although I was disappointed that it only contained 11 songs, the soundtrack still delivered attitude, steering away from the stereotypical beach sounds, which was a complete relief.

The carrier single of the disc is rock god Lenny Kravitz's kick-ass song, "If I Could Fall In Love". The music video featured the three surfer girls in the movie. Definitely a good start for a rock intro. Following is the hard-driven techno dance remix of N.E.R.D.'s "Rock Star", a head-banging track good for beach house parties.

From rock, the CD moves to a beach staple sound - pure reggae and hiphop. It features upbeat tunes such as "Party Hard" and "Big Love", with wicked remixes like "And Be Loved", "Cruel Summer (Blestenation Mix)", and "Front 2 Back (Fatboy Slim Remix)". The songs create the feel of having a jammin' good time at the beach with your friends, so you definitely can't go wrong.

The ethereal Beth Orton gives a haunting contribution to the soundtrack in "Daybreaker", an upbeat trip-hop electronica song with evoking vocals and melody. Not to be outdone is the equally talented Nikka Costa with "Everybody Got Their Something".

Rounding off the disc are two beautiful ambient tracks to end a day at the beach. The creative duo of Zero 7 incorporates the perfect summer ballad in "Destiny" - a deliciously sensual chillout track which features the sublime vocals of Sia Furler, a perfect slow number to dance with your boo. And last but not the least, Doves gives a striking track in "Firesuite" - a mellow instumental that screams "beach lounge".

There were some songs, however, that should have been added to the soundtrack, most notably P.O.D., with their songs "Youth Of The Nation" (heard only on the surfing training of Anne Marie) and "Alive" (featured on the trailer). But all in all, Blue Crush OST packs a mean tsunami punch. A perfect addition to your CD collection!

5.0 out of 5 stars An amazing soundtrack for an awesome movie, March 14, 2003
By
This review is from: Blue Crush (Audio CD)
The Blue Crush soundtrack is filled with a great selection of music, great for summer or to remind you of the summer in the middle of the winter! Some dance club tracks (like "If I Could Fall in Love" by Lenny Kravitz), some Jamaican jams (like "And Be Love" by Damian Marley), some slow songs (like "Destiny" by Zero 7) and some rock ("Rock Star" by N.E.R.D.) I would definetely reccomend it to anyone with an eclectic music taste like me and enjoys music they can groove along to. Definetely the best soundtrack for awhile. My fave track is "Front 2 Back" by Playgroup.

5.0 out of 5 stars An awesome soundtrack for an absolutely rad movie, June 8, 2003
By
This review is from: Blue Crush (Audio CD)
I have to say the movie was absolutely fantastic and it just keeps on getting better with the soundtrack. You can't go wrong with it, it has a little bit of everything from soft melo tunes that make you feel in another world or just basically make you get up and jump up and down with the upbeat tunes. This is differnetly a cd that I will be playing all the time and is well worth it. I wish they did add POD but unfortunately was not included, for those wishing for the songs that are really good they would have to be Destiny - by zero cool, And be loved - Damian Marley and so many others. Trust me if you liked the music in the movie then you'll differnetly have no regrets about getting this soundtrack.
