Blue Dawn over Gettysburg follows an unlikely hero through the course of the Civil War, tracing the historical events with a great adventure story. I look forward to this first-time-author's next efforts!

Great perspective on the Civil War outcome!,

Admittedly I am not a history/sci-fi buff, but this book held my interest all the way through. It is an easy read and has the correct historical facts, along with great description and character development. It explains, through a bit of science fiction (maybe?), how the ending of the Civil War could have gone either way. If you like books on historical fiction, vampires, or the Civil War, this is for you.

The author offers an interesting perspective on why the Civil War ended as it did. The mix of correct historical data and facts with a science fiction spin is novel and pulls the reader into the story. A flowing writing style mixed with good character development makes for a quick and easy read. Only criticism is that the description on the back tells almost the entire story! Definitely recommend this novel for any serious history buff, Civil War fan, or science fiction/fantasy enthusiast.

Gettysburg with a patriotic vampire,

My first thought about a vampire in Gettysburg was, "HUH!?!" But, I love reading about Gettysburg--diaries, letters, regimental histories, etc. I have also read "what if" books, but wasn't too sure about a vampire "what if". After reading the reviews not only here, but in Civil War News, I decided that I wanted to read it. (I've also read the Sookie Stackhouse, Southern Vampire Series and have watched HBO's TrueBlood). This book was hard to put down; started one day and finished it the next.
Just in case you like reading vampire stories, but you are not a Civil War buff, the Epilogue and Author's Notes fill you in on some Civil War facts. Hopefully this will peak your interest enough to read more about Gettysburg and visit the Battlefield. The author has a great style of writing. The story flows and keeps your interest. Joe DeSantis has been added to my favorite author list.

Thought it was ingenious. Fun to read. Now I know where TrueBlood got
the premise of their series. Thanks Joe. |
