Book Description

March 1, 2005
Perfect for those downer days when your child needs a pick-me-up, The Blue Day Book for Kids magnificently pairs striking animal photographs and inspirational thoughts to re-create the magic Bradley Trevor Greive (BTG) tapped into with the original book.

Enchanted by the wildly successful Blue Day Book's poignant, often funny, photos of animals and clever, poetic insights, many parents and teachers from all over the world wrote the author asking, "When will you do a version of this book for children?"

The Blue Day Book for Kids features the same style of delightful black-and-white animal photos found in its New York Times best-selling predecessor. But this special edition for children is accompanied by compassionate words of wisdom written especially for children 12 and under. As BTG says, "Hey, even little people have big blue days."

The deceptively simple, imaginative story line reflects a child's sensibility about the symptoms, causes, and cures for those times when children feel tired, grumpy, left out, or think that nothing ever goes as they planned. Even on days when brussels sprouts are served at dinner . . . a cherished toy must be shared . . . a homework avalanche looms . . . or a silly mistake is made in front of friends or family, The Blue Day Book for Kids provides children with a literary umbrella to laugh off the unexpected rain life can bring.

More About the Author

Since the debut of his international best-seller The Blue Day Book, Bradley Trevor Greive has become an international publishing sensation. A former Australian paratrooper, BTG left the army to pursue more creative misadventures. He has been bitten by wild monkeys and rabid bats and was accepted into the Russian cosmonaut program--though those incidents hopefully were unrelated. He spends most of his time in a tiny Tasmanian hamlet with his three very large dogs.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Family Favorite!, October 3, 2005
This review is from: The Blue Day Book for Kids: A Lesson in Cheering Yourself Up (Hardcover)
My children (ages 7 and 4) stumbled across this book at our favorite bookstore recently, and I can't say enough about the smiles and cheer it has brought them. I now plan to buy this book as a gift for every child I know (and even a few adults). Adorable black and white photos have managed to capture our animal friends in the most peculiar poses, opening wonderful dialog opportunities in our family. Even if you aren't "blue" this book will elevate the mood of anyone, any age. It's destined to be a favorite for many families.
(For the record, this is my first Amazon review. I usually don't post reviews, although I do write them professionally. When I noticed this book had no shopper reviews yet, I couldn't help but share my opinion with viewers. If you're wondering whether or not this book is a keeper, I can't think of anyone who wouldn't love it! Enjoy!)

5.0 out of 5 stars An Excellent Picture Book For Kids, May 16, 2010
This review is from: The Blue Day Book for Kids: A Lesson in Cheering Yourself Up (Hardcover)
This is a wonderfully crafted children's book that every kid should have. The book tells of the importance of not being sad and of learning to make the best out of the day; all the while with the use of hilarious animal photos. Fans of the adult version of this book will love giving this one to their children. It also makes for a great learning tool, as children often love animals and will have fun seeing what they are doing when they supposedly feel a certain way. Younger children will probably even like it just for the pictures themselves if they're too young to read it. My daughter loves this book (more for the photos then for the narrative), and I hope you other parents give the book a try.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Lesson: You Have the Power to Make Your own Mood., January 25, 2010

Annie M. (North California) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Blue Day Book for Kids: A Lesson in Cheering Yourself Up (Hardcover)
I read this book today to a group of 9 and 10 year old children. They laughed at all the pictures and really got the message. The photographer/author managed to capture human emotions on his animal subjects and apply everyday blue situations to the frustrated and sad photos and great alternatives to the humorously positive photos. The message to empower people to change a blue day and make it a good one by doing positive activities to cheer yourself up is good for all ages. It is simply stated and beautifully depicted with amazing photographs. I had as much fun watching the kids ooing, ahing, and laughing as the kids did. Good message, fun to read, fun to see.
Caution: There is a sister book called "The Blue Day Book" which is more adult in nature. It's topics include work situations and mating. It wouldn't be appropriate for young children. The Blue Day Book for kids is great for any age.
