About the Author

Manga creator, writer and illustrator Kazue Kato was born in Tokyo on July 20, 1980. In 2000, at age 19, she won the prestigious Tezuka Award for her work Boku to Usagi (Rabbit and I) published in Akamaru Jump. From 2005 to 2006 her series Robo to Usakichi, a sci-fi adventure featuring a rabbit (again!) was published in the monthly magazine Shonen Sirius (Kodansha).

Her latest series, Blue Exorcist, began in Jump Square in April of 2009.

Kazue Kato has used a rabbit as a self-portrait in her author’s notes since her debut, and her titles often have some relation to rabbits.

This arc is pretty interesting because it introduces you to many of the main characters that will appear in the later volumes.

Ao no Exorcist aka Blue Exorcist Vol 02 still holds onto the things vol 1 did right.

- The art is lovely to look at and conveys the story very well.
- The characters are still likable and not so outrageous like some series.
- It reads well/flows smoothly. I'm never left looking at a panel trying to figure out what the hell I'm seeing.
- The story is interesting.
- On a technical note, I like how viz really prints out the ink nice and black. It's pleasing to my eye.

The end of Vol 02 left me wanting more. I still highly recommend this series.

Actually, the story gets a bit slower, but is still interesting, in the second volume of "Blue Exorcist," Kazue Kato's hit comic about a 15-year-old boy Rin Okumura, the child of Satan. There are more characters, more combat scenes and more secrets arrive (with one of the school's instructors who seems interested in Rin's uncanny abilities more than necessary), but not much happens that will propel the larger story about Rin determined to pay a visit to his father someday.

The second volume (that consists of four chapters) spends considerable pages on introducing some of the important supporting characters including Ryuji Suguro, nicknamed "Bon," who looks like a teenage delinquent but is actually a smart and serious student, and Izumo Kamiki, an intelligent and strong-willed (read "tsundere") girl, whose bossy attitudes are perhaps a means of covering up her insecurities.

It is an entertaining read with likeable characters and nice artworks, but, as is the case with most Japanese comics, you have to read the entire series from Volume 1 to fully appreciate the series' merits. Also, in English edition, you might be missing the meanings of some characters' names written in kanji letters (Izumo Kamiki means literally "divine tree of Izumo, land of ancient gods").

The second volume is an enjoyable ride as the first one, with more emphasis on characters you can relate to.

I love Blue Exorcist anime and manga. This is the original style manga which I like. But I ordered this new and recieved it with pages falling out and a torn cover in very poor packaging. Buyer Beware You Might Have To Have Another One Shipped To You

I was genuinely surprised by this manga.
As a story coming from Shonen Jump Advanced, it does have the typical shonen themes - emphasis on the power of friendship, for instance, which is great until it gets trite. But Kazue Kato has managed to wield all these familiar elements in a fresh, exciting way that really makes the story memorable.
The Plot itself had the potential to fall flat on its face, with an underwhelming thud. But Kato handles the subject matters nicely, keeping the themes from getting too dark, but never forgetting the weight of their importance. The Setting is visually-engaging - a jumble of reinvented, almost retro-futuristic Tokyo, the focal point being True Cross Academy. The Characters are fun and unique, and have a very real edge to them at times. And, The Art is a great compliment to the story, not too pretty and not to messy; the black ink is also printed very dark, which is perfect for a manga like this.
All in all, I loved it and can't wait to read more of it.

I absolutely love this anime, and I love the manga. The fact that all of the mangas were for sale pretty cheaply online is amazing! (The stores in my area sell for $10 or more per volume.) The books came in very good condition, without a single bend or fold in the covers, and they arrived only two days after I had ordered them. The art is very well done, and there is so much more content in the books than in the anime.
Absolutely love this!
