Book Description

ALL THE BLUE-EYED ANGELS: The Amazon-bestselling first novel in the critically-acclaimed Erin Solomon pentalogy, awarded the Awesome Indies Seal of Approval. And be sure to pick up the bestselling second and third books in the series, SINS OF THE FATHER and SOUTHERN CROSS!
The truth will set her free... But is freedom worth the price?

Investigative journalist Erin Solomon sets out to solve a mystery that's haunted her since childhood: a fatal fire at the Payson Church of Tomorrow, the isolated fundamentalist community where Erin lived with her father for the first ten years of her life. When what was presumed to be cult suicide turns out to be anything but, Erin returns to her hometown to find the truth behind the tragedy. Now, isolated on the Maine coast with an old flame and a handsome newcomer with his own dark past, Erin will risk everything to uncover the secrets of Payson Isle - secrets someone will kill to keep buried.

"A mystery that pulls you in, straps you down and takes you on a ride worthy of a blockbuster movie! ...You think you have it all figured out, then Jen Blood sends you on a sharp left turn ... WOW!"
-- HaveYouHeardMyBookReview.com

"All the Blue-Eyed Angels grabbed me from the first few lines and wouldn't let me go. It was fun to find such a well-written debut novel, and well-written it is. Filled with great characterization, pacing, and description- this book was a joy to read. If you like mysteries with a strong plot filled with dark secrets and murder, and a kick a** setting, along with a romantic-triangle involving two vastly different men, then you'll love this book."
-- DV Berkom, Author of the Amazon-bestselling Kate Jones thrillers

"In All the Blue-Eyed Angels, Blood has given us a powerful, emotionally complex story peopled with fully-realized characters and terrific, well-honed prose. Thankfully, this is but the first in the Erin Solomon mystery series. I'm very much looking forward to the others."
-- Darcy Scott, Author of Hunter-Huntress and Matinicus

** Don't miss bestselling thriller SINS OF THE FATHER, the Erin Solomon sequel readers can't put down: When Erin and fellow reporter Daniel Diggins are forced into the northern Maine woods by someone intent on making them pawns in a diabolical game of cat and mouse, it will take everything they have to get out alive, and finally learn the truth about Erin's father's past--and the trail of bodies in his wake.

Editorial Reviews

Review

"Creepy, tense, and thoroughly addictive... I loved everything about this book. The characters are well developed and I was completely engaged throughout." Kindle Book Review

"The pacing is flawless, building steadily to a riveting climax. The characters are complex, likable and expertly drawn. If you enjoy contemporary mysteries, then you don't want to pass on this one." Tahlia Newland, Awesome Indies Book Reviews

"Jen Blood has created my favorite narrator of the decade: the whip-smart, sassy, and delightfully stubborn Erin Solomon. The story she tells--with its hidden turns, dry humor, enthralling pace, persuasive complexity, and vivid setting--is absolutely unforgettable. Blood is one hell of a writer."
Lewis Robinson, award-winning author of Water Dogs and Officer Friendly and Other Stories

"All the Blue-Eyed Angels is a stellar debut from a talented author. Jen Blood has crafted an action and suspense packed story with a conflicted and clever sleuth, a moody setting, multiple mysteries, a little romance, and plenty of twists." Susan Vaughan, award-winning author of Primal Obsession

***Spoiler Alert***

This is the first time I have read one of Jen Blood's Novels and I already absolutely love her writing style.

Erin Solomon returns to her childhood home of Littlehope after inheriting Payson Island but of course not everybody are as they appear. She is there to solve the mystery of a fire but there is plenty of story packed in along the way.

I loved everything about this book. Mystery novel's are my favourite Genre, I have read a fair few and this certainly lived up to my expectations.

The book is thoroughly written, the characters are well developed and I was completely engaged throughout the book.

There are some creepy parts in the book too which made for tense reading but this is everything I look for in a book. There are also some elements of humour and a complicated love triangle too but the overall setting is dark and powerful.

The story has a lot of unexpected plot twists that will keep you turning the pages in astonishment.

I read this book in two sittings as I had to know how the story would unfold.

I loved the main character Erin Solomon and I particularly enjoyed the way the story was set in Erin's past and present.

I would definitely recommend this book to anybody who likes a good mystery with a slightly different style. Nothing predictable here!

My advice would there are some spine chilling moments so if you're easily scared don't read before bedtime! There are also some stomach churning parts so if you don't have a strong stomach beware!

The only thing is I can not wait for the next installment of the Erin Solomon series, I will definitely buying the second book.

A strong 4 stars from me.

3.0 out of 5 stars For those who like cliffhangers June 9, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
While I don't mind a bit of an unresolved issue in a novel, I do appreciate a satisfying conclusion to the main plot or theme. I didn't get that with All the Blue-Eyed Angels. This book raises a lot of questions. Unfortunately, it doesn't answer them.

After reading through the entire book with its emphasis on who started the fire and why, it ended without answering those and with even raising more questions. As I was nearing the end of the book, I thought the author would have quite a job to wrap up the story in the final chapters. I realized when I got to the last page that the author's resolution was for the reader to purchase the next book.

I think if the author had labeled this as Part One, I would have skipped it since I prefer novels that can stand alone even if the main character is part of a series. Since there are so many books and so little time to enjoy them, I do appreciate having such facts up front.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gripping read February 25, 2012
By Liz
Format:Kindle Edition
A tightly woven, intricate novel that grabs you from the first word and doesn't let go - not even after the last sentence. The characters are vivid and easy to relate to, even in their extreme circumstances. Most importantly though, the story is crisp and gripping with touches of humor that will leave you entertained. The only drawback is having to wait for the next installment.

2.0 out of 5 stars underhanded July 13, 2012

Although this book was a good read I did not bargain for a continuing serial, free or not. The author has a duty to inform the reader that you need two books to solve the story. I will certainly keep Jen Bloods name in mind; never read this author's books again.

3.0 out of 5 stars Unfair ending June 19, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I understand that if you are writing a series you usually need to have some continuity between books. But this book ended so abruptly with only one or 2 of the many questions answered I actually checked to make sure I was really at the end.

Based on what I have read so far I am not sure I want to continue reading any further offerings in the series. I would hate to get through the next book and STILL not know what the heck was going on. I enjoyed the character Diggs, but I don't know if Erin was likeable enough for me to invest any more time in her story. I kind of liked her self centered mom more than her. At least Kat wasn't so needy. It was in interesting premise, the cult angle was great and could have been done more indepth. Overall the characters and lack of answers made it less than enjoyable though.

I don't have a lot of time but I did want to respond to two reviews I read. The first review was on the back of the book which warned readers of this not being a book to start before bedtime; when I read that and took in the visual of the front of the book. I obeyed the warning. I was busy when I first purchased the book and thus didn't have much time during the day to begin it so it took me about a month to dive in. And, I confess, I was a bit sheepish about reading it as the truth of the matter was I was scarred of it (Chuckle). In response to this review of not reading it before bedtime having read it, I say "Hogwash", unless of course you need an eight hours night sleep because I did find myself the second time I picked it up spending the whole night up reading it!

I have to say that I didn't find the book to be creepy because even though the story line itself is a bit creepy, it was told from the main characters point of view who amidst all of the twisted and dark chaos that crashed upon the shores of her young self is a very jovial and intelligent human being. She has a sweet sense of humor and a tough mind.

In response to the other 3 star review here on Amazon regarding the ending and their dislike of it. I have to argue that would be just a style preference. One of my favorite parts of the book is the ending. I think it really demonstrates the intelligence of the plot.

For someone that reads mainly non-fiction I have to say this was quite an entertaining read and I can't wait to read the next book! I love that we were left dangling!
