4.0 out of 5 stars Some of Loretta Lynn's best, July 31, 2000
By
Shaun Henderson (Kalispell, MT USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Blue-Eyed Kentucky Girl (Audio CD)
"Blue-eyed Kentucky Girl" is basically a compilation CD, but one that is worth having! Highlighting some of her most memorable songs from around the early 1970s, like the timeless "Coal Miner's Daughter" and groundbreaking "The Pill," the album features both slower-tempo hits like "Somebody Led Me Away" to her more fast-paced numbers ("Rated X"). This CD showcases what Loretta does best, country songs from her own point of view, a woman's point of view, but both men and women will enjoy listening. If you want a collection highlighting Loretta's best songs, this is the CD to have, and at a very reasonable price!

5.0 out of 5 stars Loretta Lynn at Her Classic Best, September 30, 2005
This review is from: Blue-Eyed Kentucky Girl (Audio CD)
A great low-cost introduction to the great Loretta Lynn at her peak! This collection of vintage originals includes many of her most legendary songs including COAL MINER's DAUGHTER. All of the songs on the album were big smashes for Loretta with the exception of ANOTHER MAN LOVED ME LAST NIGHT which was just an album track from her original CMD album and not a single release. It's a superb performance and worth remembering but one wonders how it got onto this collection. And very curiously, why is one of Loretta's early smashes BLUE KENTUCKY GIRL renamed BLUE EYED KENTUCKY GIRL here (and also used for the title of the CD). Certainly there are far more comphrensive Loretta CDS out there but this low-price set is a wonderful choice to give as a gift to friends who may not yet be Loretta fans and who no doubt will become one after this CD.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Safe Choice!, September 21, 2005
This review is from: Blue-Eyed Kentucky Girl (Audio CD)
Loretta Lynn from Butcher Holler, Kentucky had 69 Billboard hits from 1960 to 1985. That statistic comes from Joel Whitburn's "Billboard Book of Top 40 Country Hits". 9 of the 10 tracks on this CD made the charts between 1965 ("Blue Kentucky Girl") and 1981 ("Somebody Led Me away"). That range alone demonstrates Loretta's wonderful longevity in a tough business. "Blue-Eyed Kentucky Girl" will not disappoint the serious country fan. Favorite tracks are always subjective but this listener was captivated by a moody "What Kind of A Girl Do You Think I Am?" (1967). Other fine tracks are "The Home You're Tearin' Down" (1965) and the aforementioned "Somebody Led Me Away". The only possible weakness to this release is the absence of any of those classic duets with the late Conway Twitty. That minor point aside, "Blue Eyed Kentucky Girl" is a perfectly safe choice for country fans. One only has to actually locate this album among the plethora of Loretta choices.
