Product Description

This ever-popular plant is similar in form to White False Indigo, with clusters of deep blue flowers covering the plant in June and July. The lush, blue-green foliage is reason enough to grow this plant! Deep rooted, slow growing, and long-lived, Blue False Indigo reaches a height of five feet at maturity. Requires rich, well-drained soil, in full sun or light shade. Makes an excellent specimen plant, and is very effective when planted individually or in clusters in the prairie meadow. Hardy in zones 4-9.

Plants were so small, I really had to look for them. 2 out of 4 plants didn't produce leaves. The other 2 plants died shortly after sprouting leaves. I've ordered many plants online and NEVER had such a disappointing result. I would not order from this grower again. Anne Smith, member Carlsbad Garden Club

4.0 out of 5 stars 2 came back, April 15, 2011

I planted these in the worst soil imaginable, 2 in full sun and 2 in part shade, planted them too late for my growing conditions and promptly exposed them to drought. I had no reasonable right to expect that these would survive or thrive. So far 2 have come back up this year. One seems to have died of natural causes in the sunny exposure, and the other, in a shady site, met a premature death by rabbit invasion. The other 2 came back ok, both in really horrendous soil (last year I stuck a trowel in the soil and found no signs of earthworm life...and lots of clay chunks...not a good sign). They didn't flower, but they didn't all die, either. I have higher hopes this season. I am not a member of the Carlsbad Castle Club. I am but an amateur gardener with a humble plot of non-friable (fried?) soil surrounded by concrete. It's as inhospitable as Mars here, so I take no credit for these plants surviving, and don't know how or why they have, but they have. I suspect the inoculation of Black Kow last spring has something to do with it. And again, not to second guess a venerable member of the Carlsbad Castle Club (whatever that is), but my plants came very well packaged and seemed to hang in through a miserable drought last summer, and have returned in similar form (a single but determined tendril so far) this year. Like I said, no blooms yet, so not thriving, but surviving and that's worth some stars. Sorry Carlsbad Castle Club member, not trying to show you up, just thought I would weigh in with my own review and rating. I think one star is undeserved for a plant that can survive my putrid soil, climate and occasional negligence. One natural death in 4 isn't bad for a $10 purchase.
