Blue loves going to school. Each day she fills her backpack with lunch, a smock for painting, and her favorite book for reading time. When she arrives at school, all her friends are there: Green Puppy, Orange Kitten, Magenta, and Purple Kangaroo, as well as their teacher, Mrs. Marigold. But school isn't all fun and games. Sometimes there are challenges, such as when Blue knocks over her milk at lunchtime, or when Green Puppy sits in Blue's special place on the reading rug. "Should Blue make Green Puppy move out of her favorite spot? Or should Blue sit somewhere else today?" Readers are treated to the preschool pooch's thought processes as she envisions each option, and are asked to help Blue come up with the best answer to the problem.

The young reader (or read-to) follows Blue through a day at school with Yellow and Orange Kittens, Green Puppy, Purple Kangaroo, and Magenta. In the charming, gentle manner that Blue's Clues manages so well, children are encouraged to think through several difficult social situations, such as: Blue has spilled her milk. Should she sit there and feel sad or clean it up? If someone takes Blue's usual spot in the reading circle, should she push in or sit elsewhere? The answers are obvious to adults, but not to toddlers and young children.

Blue loves going to school, but sometimes she has to face some tough situations. In Blue Goes to School, the book follows Blue as she enters Miss Marigold's class, tries to find her cubbyhole, and performs a variety of tasks throughout the day.

This book teachers thinking skills for pre-schoolers as well as manners. For example, Blue is painting a picture of her house and she needs purple for the door. However, Purple Kangaroo has used all the purple paint. Blue then thinks up a strategy of how to make purple paint (as opposed to throwing a tantrum like some kids would.)

Another example is Green Puppy taking Blue's spot on the reading rug. Blue debates whether she should make Green Puppy move out of her spot or whether she should pick somewhere else to sit today. (Of course, she picks the latter!)

Young homeschoolers may a bit confused as to why they don't go to a "regular" school like the characters in the story, but overall, this is a nice book introducing children to the concept of school and polite social interactions.

There's not much more traumatic in a child's, or parent's life for that matter, than sending your kid off to school for the very first time. In Blues goes to School you can show your child just how fun the first day of school can be. Blue gets to have story time, paint, and meet new friends in this cute adventure. He even has to learn about sharing as someone eles sits in his spot. Wonderful tale for those new school children!
