5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic coverage of culture and history. Wish that they would be updated more often., April 17, 2009

This review is from: Blue Guide Austria, Fourth Edition (Blue Guides) (Paperback)
My wife and I love the Blue Guides but I wish that they would be updated more frequently.

You cannot use the Blue Guides, including this Austrian one, as your only guidebook because its listing of hotels and restaurants and its practical information such as how to get from one city to the other are limited.

However, this guide is wonderful if you want to know more about the history, art and culture of where you are. If you ever walked down a street, saw an interesting building, and thought "I wonder what its story is", then this is the guide for you. If you think of your trip as an education excursion, a chance to learn more about the history and culture of a place, this guide is for you. If you think of a new city as a museum but wish there was someone to tell you who that statue is of, then this is the guide for you. It will tell you about that statue, that building, that obscure but historical and important place.

This guide is not always the most up-to-date but that is OK because it covers history and culture and such doesn't change that quickly. Buy another guide for advice about what places to stay in and which trains to catch.
