Good blend of composition and technique,

Dan Lambert seems to me to be one of those unknown, major players on the acoustic guitar scene - if that contradiction makes any sense. He can rip, startle you, play nice and pretty, and his compositions are as unique as they get...check out the first tune on here, at times it doesn't even sound like a guitar.

Well Worth It!,

I don't know what to say except that this cd has some exceptional music on it. It's well worth the price. Check out some of his others too. Besides being such a good guitarist, Mr. Lambert writes magnificent tunes.

Unique Solo Guitar Music,

I am an ex-student of Dan Lambert. He taught me in El Paso for a few years during high school, then I went off to college and moved away. I still play guitar, but not professionally. Whenever Dan releases a new cd, he has some kind of party in El Paso, so I always have my mom go pick up his latest. Somehow I missed THE BLUE HAND getting released, but this really unique music. It sure isn't your typical solo guitar music. What I like about Dan and his music more than anything else, I think, is that he isn't afraid to put his own signature on the music BIG TIME. I mean, you can always tell that it's Dan. That is what I think I took out of those lessons more than anything else, to work hard at something and artistically, put your all into it. Doing that, you may lay your soul bare a little bit, but it sure makes for some exciting music!

Beautiful Stuff,

I've heard this guy play live several times. Every time is a bit different, it depends on who he's into at any given moment (lately it's been some Brazilian guys like Sebastiao Tapajos and Rafael Rabello - he loves to talk about all this stuff too). These influences really come through in his playing, it's always still Dan, just with some cool new thing thrown in. He plays all the time in the Southwest, I mean I checked musi-cal.com before I wrote this and he or his band have 6 gigs this week in the area! He seems to be the kind of guy (especially from watching him play, and listening to his recordings -The Blue Hand is the latest , most individualistic, and best, in my opinion) who just loves making music. You can tell he gets almost into a trance and just plays the greatest stuff. He's a popular performer around here and I hope the rest of the country (actually, you can hear his stuff on NPR's "All Things Considered") finds out about him too.

Okay, but...,

I am a guitar student of Dan's, and have been for 4 or 5 years. He has incredible talent and potential, but he simply does not make music that most people can enjoy. He plays a very strange combination of folk and jazz, with unexpected and often annoying twists and turns in between. He gets his influence from a bunch of unknown Latin and South American players, and they lead him to paths that nobody can understand. Dan is an unhappy artist: he is passionate about everything he records, but nobody else is. Unfortunately for him, he will never be anything more than a solo guitarist that performs in smoky bar rooms and quiet restaurants.
