Editorial Reviews

Newly released recordings by the late Dave 'Snaker' Ray, known to many as a member of the seminal folk-blues trio Koerner, Ray & Glover, recorded in the last year of his life. Mining the rich oeuvre of American blues and folk music with extraordinary 12 string guitar playing (as well as 6 string & electric too) and his resonant vocals, Dave Ray gives us a performance to remember him by. Accompanists include John Koerner, Tony Glover and Eddie Kirkland, with tunes by Jay McShann, Kid Bailey, John Lee Hooker, Arthur Big Boy Crudup, Little Willie John, Lightnin Slim and others. Liner notes by Tony Glover.

3.0 out of 5 stars Lite, clean, n' slightly bluesy January 5, 2012
Korner, Ray & Glover did not impress me back in the day, and this last disc from Ray is no different. Good accoustic guitar work,OK vocal, but he adds nothing to these chestnuts. Their old recordings from the 60s & 70s seemed a bit scholarly to me, and this is the same ol thing.
"Person To Person" is especially lame, compared to the great Cleanhead Vinson.More sanitary than soulful, but I can see how this stuff appealed to folks brought up on ordinary pop or mild, commercial "folk" music. The recording is a combination of solo live recordings and small group studio tracks.
The title number (mainly known by Fats Domino)is kind of ragtime oriented, and "Rowdy Blues" is neither. I do like the slide feature "Lord, I Can't Keep From Crying".
Compares poorly to the original classics, or stuff like Dion's two fairly recent blues CD'sTank Full Of BluesBronx In Blue
