Just Say NO - Blue Juice! Get the Fast, Fast!,
By
This review is from: Blue Juice Valve Oil (Electronics)
I've been a trumpet player since 1968. Whenever I have used this product over the years, my valves will consistently gum up and stick in between sessions requiring me to reapply, sometimes almost daily. The product I will only use now is the "Fast" valve oil. It lubes my valves and I do not have to reapply for weeks. I have been using it exclusively with consistently outstanding results for about the last 15 years. I would not put anything with a color added, "Blue", Green or otherwise, into my 1968 Bach Mercedes Trumpet with hand lapped valves (they don't make 'em anymore). My first horn was a 6 mo. rental Cornet, but the Bach Merc has been my axe ever since. Very careful about this baby. Others speak about corrosion but my 40+ year old horn just keeps blowing and going thanks to the "Fast" valve oil, no signs of internal corrosion.

Not only does "Blue Juice" do a better job of oiling your valves, but it also helps keep them clean. This stuff was recommended by my music teacher, and has lasted much longer than any other oil I have used, and without gunky build up.

I have been using Blue Juice for over one year now with a Yamaha 8310Z trumpet and a Getzen Eterna cornet. I have had no problems at all. I play one to two hours per day minimum. I have seen nothing unusual in any parts of the horns. In fact, I seem to need less of this oil than when I used the Al Cass oil. Of course, I clean my horns periodically with clean water & soap, and a little more often in warm weather. If someone is getting valves stuck, corroded, "gunked" etc., you may want to have a pro technician examine your horn or the way you oil it.

Do NOT buy!,
This review is from: Blue Juice Valve Oil (Electronics)
Blue Juice is a horrible product if you want your trumpet or other brass instrument to last do not but Blue Juice. Blue Juice leaves behind a residue in all your Valves/Slides. Some music stores promote it but it honestly is not worth the buy if you want a great valve oil I highly recommend Al Cass Valve Oil which lubricates valves perfectly while Blue Juice has to be reapplied each time you get out your horn Al Cass lasts for a very long time with no side effects.

We had a stuck valve on a trumpet and used the Blue Juice and now everything is working great. One application has lasted a long time. Good stuff! Try it.

Unlike any other product I have used, this valve oil never leaves a residue of any kind. Rotary valves always work smoothly, even after oil has dried up. When they begin to get noisy, a little of this product, and they're quiet again.

What you need to know before using Blue Juice,

First of all, Blue Juice is a great valve oil. If you are switching to Blue Juice from a non-synthetic valve oil (or from any valve oil, really) then you need to at the very least rinse out your valve casings and valves and let them air dry. You need to get the old oil off of your valves before applying a new one so they don't intermix and cause your valves to gum up, stick, or corrode. I've found that Blue Juice does a great job in protecting from corrosion, in fact, I switched from a non-synthetic because that valve oil was corroding my valves.
Blue Juice works great. I tend to oil my valves once a week, but you could go longer easily, I just don't chance that as a performer. Over oiling your valves is as bad as under-oiling, so just get a feel for when your valves start to feel a bit sluggish and apply.

From a Juilliard Trumpet Player and Personal Experience,
This review is from: Blue Juice Valve Oil (Electronics)
Blue juice is a very poor product that will corrode one's trumpet relatively soon after one begins to apply it as a valve or slide lubricant. I know this from personal experience as well as from the testimony of a Juilliard trumpet player. Additionally, it's overpriced, and it doesn't even work very well in decreasing friction. In conclusion, this product is very harmful for your trumpet, and its benefits are limited. You'd be better off using the basic petroleum-based valve oil provided by music stores with each instrument purchase, although synthetic oils are well worth the extra money, since they corrode metal at a MUCH slower rate than petroleum products and provide excellent overall lubrication.
