5.0 out of 5 stars The howling Bluesman is born
Chris Rea is back again. Pouring out what he had hidden for more than 20 years. He is the new meaning to the blues. After his surprise masterpiece double album, "Dancing down the stony road", he is here to tell us that he wants to "Paint his jukebox blue". The album is the continuation of his Stony Road CD with the addition of some excellent...

2.0 out of 5 stars too jazzy
Gee, this is my first negative review for Chris Rea. Why? Well I expect it is because this cd moved away from what one might associate with Chris Rea....it may be of liking to jazz enthusiasts, but it was too jazzy and mundane for my taste.

"Dancing With Strangers" is a good representation of early Chris Rea (and IMO very good) I would also recommend "The...

5.0 out of 5 stars The howling Bluesman is born, May 8, 2004

Chris Rea is back again. Pouring out what he had hidden for more than 20 years. He is the new meaning to the blues. After his surprise masterpiece double album, "Dancing down the stony road", he is here to tell us that he wants to "Paint his jukebox blue". The album is the continuation of his Stony Road CD with the addition of some excellent Saxophones. Rea plays less guitar but properly and magically. The voice is still the king and the music is a nice accompany for lonely nights. The best cuts in my opinion are: Long is the time, hard is the road; Paint my jukebox blue and Steel river Blues. Beutiful arrangement, Jazzy bluesy mood (reflective of his JazzeeBlue label) and masterful musicianship makes The Blue Jukebox a pioneer effort in Rea's resume. The howling bluesman is born. Thanks for the inspiration.

If you are chris Rea Fan, Blue Jukebox sounds like a beautifully aged "Road to Hell" Album. Slow and very melodic. If you expect a fast Chris Rea album you will be deceived. If you have yourself aged with Chris Rea's music, this album will be a jewel, specially after being heard 3 or 4 times.
If you are new to Chris Rea's music, start with "Road to hell" instead.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best from Chris Rea, March 21, 2005

I'm a big fan of Chris Rea, and I like both his blues and rock songs. I have to say that this is the best Rea's album I've bought, and I have many!. Although this album had many melodies from previous ones, but it was so distinct in it's use of Saxphone. If you liked stoney road you will love this one.

Gee, this is my first negative review for Chris Rea. Why? Well I expect it is because this cd moved away from what one might associate with Chris Rea....it may be of liking to jazz enthusiasts, but it was too jazzy and mundane for my taste.

"Dancing With Strangers" is a good representation of early Chris Rea (and IMO very good) I would also recommend "The Blue Cafe" and "King Of The Beach" where you can get many good tunes that are not on his "best of" CD's.

I am the only negative review, but I think these folks appreciate jazz a bit more than I do. I love the sax as a compliment to music and even though the sax in this cd was done well, it couldn't save this flat and somewhat drab cd.

5.0 out of 5 stars Chris Rea a Great Voice, July 1, 2010

I have always loved Chris Reas' deep and throaty voice. Ever since he recorded, "Fool if You Think Its Over," I have loved this man and his music. When my friend Barry went to the UK he asked me what he could bring me back. Some of Chris' CD's that I could not get here was my answer and he did bring them back for me.
I love this mans' guitar playing as well he has a great persona at his concerts. I have several of his concerts on dvds. I love this mans music and I listen on my Iphone all the time in the city.
