Country is back!,
This review is from: Blue (Audio CD)
This is a great new album of fun country songs. When I first heard this, I thought LeAnn was an adult. What a surprise to find out she was my age! She is very talented and I think the songs are great! She is given country a great comeback and I think she did a very good job picking out songs. "Light in Your Eyes" is my favorite on the album, because I find it inspirational. "Blue" and "Cattle Call" are also some of my favorites. If you are a great country fan, or just discovering country for the first time, BUY THIS ALBUM!

Traditional country with a contemporary edge,
By

LeAnn's career has certainly been varied and it is unlikely that many people will love everything she's recorded. This particular album was the first to be released (but not her earliest recordings) and is definitely one for traditional country fans. The music is kept simple. Although a lot of different musicians are credited, I suspect this merely reflects different line-ups at different recording sessions. The only instruments credited are acoustic guitar, electric guitar, steel guitar, fiddle, drums, harmonica and keyboards - this is about as country as you get these days on a major label.
On the opening title track in particular, LeAnn sounds like Patsy Cline, whose influence is clear throughout the album. As far as I know, all the songs are originals except for Cattle call, originally a country hit for Eddy Arnold, who puts in an appearance here as duet partner. All the songs are excellent and LeAnn's performances are impeccable. This is different from most of Leann's albums so, regardless of what you think about LeAnn\s later music, if you enjoy traditional country, buy this but if not, save your money and buy something more suitable instead.

"LeAnn Fan" A Sensational CD!,

A 13 year old sensation, singing beautiful songs with her powerful and lovely voice. This is my favorite LeAnn CD. All the songs are wonderful. My favorites are "Hurt Me", One Way Ticket (Because I Can), "Honestly", "The Light in your eyes" and her duet with country legend Eddie Arnold in a great all fashion country song "Cattle Call". She sounds remarkably like Patsy Cline but with her own wonderful style. A truly sensational talented singer. I would highly recommend this CD.

Amazing Voice!,

Leann Rimes has an extradornary voice. She sings with such style and grace and does a good job of singing Patsy Cline's "Blue." That's the song that made me purchase this CD. With such a strong voice it's almost impossible not to be enchanted by her voice. With songs like Blue, Hurt Me, One Way Ticket (Because I Can), and The Light in Your Eyes you're automatically hooked~ My Baby is also a great song. Sure she's young and there have been controversal issues on if she was too young to sing a song this mature, I think she does an excellent job. Young or not! Honestly is a beautiful ballad thats filled with emotions and sang with such honesty and innocence. The other songs Talk To Me (Leann took part in the writing of this song), I'll Get Even With You, Good Lookin' Man, and Fade to Blue are all excellent too. Cattle Call (Duet with Eddy Arnold) was also a pleasure to listen to on this CD. This CD is enchanting! A great start for Leann and this CD shows how Leann started her very successful music career!

LeAnn made me into a Country Fan!,

Seriously thanks to LeAnn Rimes, among others, my ears are now open to country music. Once I started listening to Country music thanks in part to the new artists, who reeled me in, I had to go back and listen to some of the classics, like Dolly Parton, Reba McEntire, and Patsy Cline. You know, the ones who came before and set the pace for artists like LeAnn. The album Blue, I believe is still her best album to date. One Way Ticket is the best song on the record. The Light In Your Eyes makes you feel good about yourself. We can all use some of that. Just buy it and don't think twice. Amazon has a fantastic variety of music to offer by every artist. They offer music that can be difficult to find in your neighborhood store because those stores favor the new stuff and the older music gets pushed aside and forgotten about, but hopefully not in this case with Blue. Amazon won't let you down. You can always find what you are looking for right here.

An absolutely phenomenal talent,

Wow, this album blew me away. I am in awe of LeAnn's vocal talent. This girl has IT. This album is an unbelieveable work perfectly well-crafted to suit her voice. What she can do with her voice is amazing, as she proves in the title song "Blue." "Hurt Me" is a painful ballad, and LeAnn delivers all the emotion of that song with her voice; the drawl she sings with expresses the lyrics precisely. "My Baby" is a mature song far beyond her 13 years but she handles that song like an experienced adult. I'm also impressed by her ability to sing softly and be convincing at it, which she is in "Honestly," "I'll Get Even with You," and "Fade to Blue." No wonder LeAnn became a superstar with this album. This album is incredible. The songs are perfect for her voice and LeAnn's extraordinary talent gives her the uncanny ability to bring justice to each song.

Thanks, LeAnn!,

Before I heard LeAnn's Blue CD, I thought country music wasn't worth much. Since 1996 when I got her CD as a gift, I've grew to be one of LeAnn's biggest fans, and have learned that country music really is great. As the years goes by LeAnn's voice gets stronger. At age 13 she already made many record breaking, and as you have heard, been compared to legend, Patsy Cline. Believe it or now LeAnn's soon to be 18, and she still is breaking success. For real great country by one of today's biggest stars, buy Blue by LEANN RIMES!

I can't believe her voice,

LeAnn Rimes has some voice. It is unbelievable. She uses her voice in ways that no one else can do. I doubt any other singer can sing in ways that LeAnn can. Her voice stands out from other singers because no one else can sing like she can. Like when she sings "blue" in the song of the same name. Or reach and sit on top of those high notes. The album is a wonderful debut. Many of the songs are traditional country, and LeAnn's voice makes them sound so country. The music production is simple and not overpowering, which is the way music should be on an album so that the music doesn't drown out the singer's voice. No wonder this debut turned LeAnn into an overnight superstar. It is a fine album all around.

Wonderful album,
This review is from: Blue (Audio CD)
At age 13, when this album was recorded, LeAnn showed the world her remarkable vocal talent. With a voice that's very mature for her age, she tackles subject matter that's way beyond her years, but as she certainly does not sound 13, every song is believable. And she even tried her hand at songwriting. She co-wrote "Talk to me" on this album. These days though she is becoming more and more cross-over, but back in 1996, she was pure country. As pure as they come! This is a great album....highly recommended.

LeAnn Rimes is her own presence,
By Gordon Kearns (St. Louis,, MO USA) - See all my reviews

I just discovered LeAnn Rimes. What a great performer - and not because of her youth or potential. To say she's a wonder for her age is a hedged compliment; and her potential - what she might or probably will be - is only a hope. Potential has no substance of its own. And she's not great because she sounds like Patsy Cline. Miss Rime's vocal qualities, and for that matter Miss Cline's, could as properly be compared to Kay Starr - or even the main line classic superstar Vera Lynn (You don't know Vera Lynn? She was the wistful hopeful voice for a hurting generation. She's in the Amazon pages; check her out). No, for here and now, LeAnn Rimes is her own presence in the world of music. She's great because of her precise and clear singing, her remarkable range, her vocal agility, her self-confident - even brash delivery, her power, her sparkle and vitality, and her "I ain't down yet" lilt, even in such plaintive songs as "Blue", "Hurt Me", and "Honestly". LeAnn Rimes is like a bell that knows its tone and its affect on the listener. For my part, I don't care whether the music she sings is new or old; whatever she does carries her own beautiful impressive stamp. Like Linda Ronstadt, LeAnn Rimes brings out the best in any music form she chooses to sing. If she chose suddenly to quit the business and take up computer design, she could be content in the knowledge that she has made her mark in music. There'll be young performers in the future who'll find themselves compared to LeAnn Rimes. As an aside, that duet with Eddy Arnold on "Cattle Call" is a poignant classic.
