This review is from: Blue Lights, Vol. 2 (Audio CD)
It all sounds a bit like 'very good, but heard more frequently'.
Art Blakey is in great shape, driving but not dominating. Louis Smith is a underrated but very fine trumpet-player, especially in the fifties (1957/1958). Later on, after a long period of retirement (giving lessons in music), his style was less passionate and original. So, because of these two participants, worthwhile! |
