1.0 out of 5 stars Not for surfers
It may be a good sunscreen for landlubbers, but it ran into my eyes and stung like crazy the first time I used it. Not the best sunscreen when you're duck diving.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Effective, Easy to Apply, Stays on a Long Time, June 24, 2004
This review is from: Blue Lizard Australian Suncream, Sport SPF 30+, 5-Ounce (Health and Beauty)
As someone who is very fair-skinned and has had a tendency to develop actinic keratoses (pre-cancerous lesions that are caused by exposure to broad-spectrum ultraviolet light), I have tried various kind of sunscreens. Most recently my dermatologist recommended this product, at least partly because it screens across the ultraviolet spectrum, unlike some that only screen out ultraviolet A.

This Australian product manufactured in Tennessee is relatively expensive but I think it's worth it. For one thing, it contains zinc oxide (that stuff that lifeguards paint their noses with) along with two other sunscreen ingredients and for another it is formulated to stay on your skin without easily wearing off. My own experience is that I can be in the sun for most of the day with only two applications; I feel it is more tenacious than, say, Coppertone Sport Sunblock.

One strange and possibly merely bells-and-whistles feature is that the clear plastic container immediately turns blue (and I'm told the baby lotion version turn pink) on exposure to UV. This is helpful, I suppose, if you're not sure whether to put the lotion on, say on a cloudy day. But those of us with sun-sensitive skin know that ultraviolet penetrates the layer of clouds which are no protection against skin damage. Still, it's kind of cute to see the bottle turn a bright blue as you watch.

Recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Aussies know about sun protection, May 15, 2004

I am a melanoma survivor and am diligent about the use of sunscreen. I discovered Blue Lizard last year and am very happy with this product from Down Under. It goes on well and provides great protection -- I'm so white you can use me for a night light. As an added attraction (and I love gimmicks like this) the white bottle turns blue when exposed to UV rays!

I use this product on my children after my dermatologist recommended it. My kids are very pale and are prone to burn. This product has done a great job protecting their sensitive skin and have never had a sunburn while wearing it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very easy to apply, August 19, 2009
This review is from: Blue Lizard Australian Suncream, Sport SPF 30+, 5-Ounce (Health and Beauty)
I have always used California baby sunscreen, this is the first time I got this. I like the fact that it is easy to apply, chemical free, and that it is much cheaper than California baby. Why is the california baby so outrageously expensive?! Hey, if this is chemical free, i rather use the lizard brand.

5.0 out of 5 stars The BEST!!, July 15, 2008
Love this product!! Leaves my skin feeling soft and moist. Does not feel heavy, sticky or oily like so many other products do. I'll never use anything else again! It is the only one my granddaughter will actually use. She is a fair-skinned redhead who burns easily and is outdoors in the California sun most of the day. This is the only sunscreen she will use on a daily basis.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Sunscreen I have found!, August 5, 2009
This review is from: Blue Lizard Australian Suncream, Sport SPF 30+, 5-Ounce (Health and Beauty)
I love this product. I am so fair skined nothing works on me. I usually wear 80 or 90 +spf. I know nothing is suppose to work above 35 spf b ut I live the high numbers. I have never been burned with blue lizard. It doesn't even smell like sunscreen. The bottle is really cool too.

5.0 out of 5 stars The sensitive version is great too!, May 14, 2009

I actually got the Sensitive skin/ chemical free version off of drugstore.com. It is thick when you first go to rub it in, but it basically just feels like you have lotion on your body instead of greasy sunscreen. Also, fragrance free is awesome! I'm not sure if this version has a fragrance or not, but you honestly can barely smell anything with the sensitive version. Also, the bottle turns blue in UV light, which is helpful.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love this stuff, August 14, 2005
This was recommended by a friend with skin cancer. I have fair skinned blonde children that I really worry about. The lotion goes on thick. Sort of a zinc oxide texture...which it does have in it. You can't put it on when the skin is wet as it needs time to absorb into the skin. I put it on before we even head to the pool. There is none of the running into the eye issues you have with other sunscreens and it does not seem to rub off with a towel or during rough water play. It is expensive but I do not have to apply it as often as other brands so in the long run it is less expensive.
