This is a Best Of from the earliest phase in George's recording career. It originally came out in 63' and is thematic in nature around the themes of being Blue & Lonesome, something Possum's catalog had enough of to choose a Best Of, even at this early juncture. George was already on to UA, by the time Mercury got this to market, but it's a solid collection, nonetheless. This first time on CD's remastering of the original 12 song lp is terrific. They have tacked on, what they describe as, another 6 songs from Possum's very earliest 78s, also built on the B&L theme. Approximately a full third of the CD are tunes you might find on other Jones' compilations, his hits. The other two thirds are less well known but solid and well programmed within the theme. If you're a fan, you might really enjoy the sequencing and remastering. Others could do worse for an introduction to George's Mercury years.

What a surprise,( a very pleasant one) when I listened to this. I love George Jones, but this is really different, songs I've never heard George sing and he doesn't sound like the typical George sounds. When did you ever hear George yodel ? Well he does a little of it on this CD and does it good. So many Jones CD's out and so many repeats of the same songs but not on this one.This is one I'm going to play over and over.
