I've just listened to a CD released by a local act that is definitely worth plugging. The Blue Madonna by Jane and Gord features 10 original folk songs written and performed by Jane Eamon, with husband Gord Brush adding to the mix.

The songwriting is strong and not to be missed by those who appreciate music that manages to convey a message without sounding corny.

The Blue Madonna by Jane and Gord is a wonderful and refreshing collection of songs that paint pictures, taking the listener from one emotion to the next without missing a beat. Jane has a talent for crafting the lyrics of a song that is fresh and honest. Her voice has a raw edge that compells and draws you into each song, making the listener really feel like they are there, experiencing the moment with her. This is why it is almost impossible to pick a favourite! Another joy about this CD is the way that Jane and Gord play their guitars in sync and harmony with one another. A perfect example, and ending to the CD, is Peggy's Lament which is a touching and mournful instrumental written in memory of Gord's mom, Peggy. If you like a simple production wrapped in truth and love, The Blue Madonna is a must have for your CD collection.

Their kitchen is the best place to hear them play, and this CD makes me feel like I'm there. Sure, it's got the slick production values you'd expect, but there is still that gritty truth laid over Jane's provocative chord progressions I've heard echo through her home for years.

I found this cd to be very engaging. The tracks are full of imagery and the harmonies are very crisp and clear. The songs seem simple but the lyrics are very evocative. My friend's children were dancing around when I played it for them. It's a great mix of gospel, country, folk - something for all.
