This review is from: Blue Monday, Vol. 1: The Kids Are Alright (v. 1) (Paperback)
If you love 80's and 90's pop, mod fashion, or just want to look back on your $#!+ hight school years with rose colored glasses (and who doesn't), buy this book! It's funny, touching, and goofy all in turn -- and overall will just warm your heart. Worth the dough.

the kids are more than allright,
By claire de lune (Bellevue, WA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Blue Monday, Vol. 1: The Kids Are Alright (v. 1) (Paperback)
This is the first Blue Monday book, which is about the hijinks of 5 friends in the early 1990s in California. The overarching plot is Bleu Finnegan, our main character trying to get tickets to see her idol Adam Ant. However, much of the plot is also devoted to the various hilarious pranks that the group plays on each other. Chynna Clugston-Major does a really great job of combining sarcasm and gleeful violence with genuine feeling as well as making it often hilariously funny at the same time.

Check Out Scooter Girl Instead,

This review is from: Blue Monday, Vol. 1: The Kids Are Alright (v. 1) (Paperback)
The art is okay, Clugston has her own take on faux manga which is certainly not bad. The writing is all cliche crap about subculture kids who are utterly charmless and unlikeable. They even made one girl Irish, the cool ethnicity du jour. It's marketed as "Archie on crack" but it's really more like "Archie as a leering mod pervert with his gay ska buddy Jughead, and Betty and Veronica listen to Op Ivy". Who cares? I mean Jughead actually went punk in the 80s for a while if memory serves. Oh yeah, Adam Ant makes an appearence and there's a lot of fan service. Tha author/artist has another book dealing with unlikable mods and punk that's actually still kind of fun and engaging, called "Scooter Girl". I'd recommend if you want to check this out, start there.

This was such a good read! I loved the charcters, the animation, and the plot! I love the whole boys vs. girls battle they have! And their plots of revenge are awesome. I now refer to destroying someone's house as Blue Monday-ing it! I can't wait to read the others!

Its a cool book just because of the "Kids are all right" arc, but the extras make this a great deal of a comic.
