a fairly good overview of avant garde, June 29, 2000

the major reason to get this album is that it has tracks on it that are virtually impossible to find on CD. albums like Grachan Moncur III's SOME OTHER STUFF and EVOLUTION have long been out of print on cd and can be found on vinyl, but are very expensive. there is one track from each on this retrospective. Also works from artists like Don Cherry, Sam Rivers, and Andrew Hill make this album good for any jazz fanatics collection. get it for the rare tuens, love it for the great music.
