3.0 out of 5 stars A good jazzy christmas with a few skippers
What recommends this compilation most are two terrific vocals of two rarely heard, unusal christmas songs: Steve Allen's "Cool Yule" and Jack Fox's "Zat You Santy Claus?" (the only scary Christmas song!). Also a mean jazz guitar arrangement of "Youre a Mean One Mr. Grinch."

So this cd gets points for interesting selections. Unfortunately,...

I just love this album. It always makes me happy to pull this out in December - it puts me in the Christmas spirit without mirroring the sappy carols they pipe into the grocery store this time of year.

This cool cat Christmas from the current songsmiths at blue note records is a elaboration from a label thats been compiling since 1939.This IS a disc to leave in a mega player from first snowfall to final melt as it`s stylization adds surprisal celebration with each listen.What lounge lizard wouldn`t wish for acoustic bass, various sax,guitar, and drums with a mixture of the following thrown in here and about;bongos,viraphone,flute,tapping,bells,piano,chimes,trumpet,and vibes atop lyrical originality and rare boffo narration.~~Merrily Mix~1$1\2,2#1\2,3#,4#,5$,6$,7#,8%,9#,10#1\2,11#,12$,and 13#1\2 no bahhumbugs here~~Post Script: This is National YULEtide Treasure please tune this in and cherish it often*****SOLID*****

What recommends this compilation most are two terrific vocals of two rarely heard, unusal christmas songs: Steve Allen's "Cool Yule" and Jack Fox's "Zat You Santy Claus?" (the only scary Christmas song!). Also a mean jazz guitar arrangement of "Youre a Mean One Mr. Grinch."

So this cd gets points for interesting selections. Unfortunately, there are a couple of skippers, most notably, Judi Silvano's syrupy, broadway-singing-style, campy version of the admittedly cloying song, "I'd Like You For Christmas."

But if you you like your Christmas jazzy, this is fun for the rotation.
