5.0 out of 5 stars A Classic Masterpiece of Ultra Nate's Anthology
A definite classic elite production from the Basement Boys. While audio quality may not be at its peak then, the production talent never fails on originality & composition. Best tracks: 3, 4, 6, 7, 8, 10, 11, 12. Check out updated tracks Scandal and It's Over Now on Ultra Nate's Grime Silk & Thunder and Alchemy G.S.T. Reloaded albums, brilliant deep-house remixes!

3.0 out of 5 stars It's certainly not the best from our Diva of Despair BUT....
.....it was definitely a good start for Ultra. Released back in 1991, this album explores the grassroots level of house music, and is very experimental production-wise. Some parts of the instrumentals are out of sync with Ultra's vocals, and for 2004 standards some of the instrumentals used sound quite cheesy. .....it was definitely a good start for Ultra. Released back in 1991, this album explores the grassroots level of house music, and is very experimental production-wise. Some parts of the instrumentals are out of sync with Ultra's vocals, and for 2004 standards some of the instrumentals used sound quite cheesy. The Basement Boys could have done a better job with this album, but they were novices in their time and were still mastering their craft. Ultra, however, brought a lot to this album- some soulful interludes, her soothing (yet younger sounding) vocals, and her introduction into reigning the house music genre (still after 14 years, she's got it!)

The good part of this album is that we can hear Ultra's voice before it has matured to what it is today, and we are given the pleasure of hearing some evolutionary songwriting from Ultra, something that most recording artists lack on debut albums. Not to mention, it's a nice collector's item, even if it's not your favorite.

Ultra really shines in her 1998 album "Situation:Critical"....check it out!

4.0 out of 5 stars BlueNotes Is Rare Club Noir, March 8, 2011

After almost giving up on this "Out Of Print" Classic, the search was well worth it. Ultra sets the mood with a jazzy flair of riffs over late 80s/early 90s club beats tweaked to perfection by Producers, "Basement Boyz", to the delight of listeners. You'll love the lyrical diversity of 'love', 'gospel' 'naughtiness' and 'heartbreak'. The album also ends with a beautiful yet dark and jazzy sililoquy of a love gone awry but a promise to recover. This is traditional Club/Basement grooves heightened to near perfection.
