This CD is inspired by the music and words of New Orleans legend Sidney Bechet. Young clarinetist Christopher, whom I heard live at Donna's Bar & Grill in New Orleans a couple of years ago, captures the tone and focussed power of Bechet in some stunning originals, captured in an imaginary world on "Clarinet Road." It's impressive (and somewhat easy) to play rapid arpeggios on the clarinet, but Christopher touched me with his slow and soulful originals, particularly "Waltz for All Souls." Although the album is titled "The Remembering Song," one of his originals defined this CD better: "You Gotta Treat it Gentle."
