Excellent solos from Parlan, and very strong ensemble playing from the trio; the rendition of Mingus's beautiful elegy for Lester Young, "Goodbye Porkpie Hat," is particularly nice. (Parlan was also the pianist on Mingus's original recording, on the classic "Mingus Ah Um" album.)
