Take me dancing naked in the Rain, March 1, 2005
This review is from: Blue Pearl (Audio CD)
Blue Pearl were the UK based dance act comprised of Pink floyd back-up vocalist Durga McBroom and Killing Joke bassist Youth. The duo quickly found success when their debut single "naked in the rain" topped the UK charts. The group released one more single "Can you feel the passion" after their debut album before fading away into the musical abyss.
Their only album contains a good mix of early 90's dance rhythms mixed with British styled soul music. Tracks like "Little brother", "without love" and the hit "naked in the rain" explore the club sounds of early 90s Britain. Durga's delivery on the songs really helps them from becoming generic club tunes.
The group explore musically throughout the album. "Chemical thing" is a interesting and psychadelic soundscape mixed with guiatre riffs and ambient keyboards. The group do a fairly straight forwards cover of Kate Bush's "running up that hill" and go for deep US soul on the track "rollover".
Overall the album is a solid album although it may disappoint some with its musical genre hopping. The dance tracks are solid and the soul music engaging enough to keep most listeners interested. Fans of PInk Floyd might be interested to know that Dave Gilmour plays on 2 tracks.

This album has been such a part of my life... who'd of thunk!, November 6, 2007
This review is from: Blue Pearl (Audio CD)
One day way back in 1994 or so, i needed to pick an email name. I couldnt think of anything clever, so i stood up and did a blind album pick. Up came Blue Pearl: Can you feel the passion / naked in the rain 12". My favorite record of theirs is "little brother"
a bit haunting but touches deep. they have since been the one and only user name i seem to have to use. Thanks Blue Pearl! Just think... I could have been named Pilot Error girl! ;)
