Editorial Reviews

From the Publisher

Joanna Purl has a talent for describing a scene in a manner that puts the reader IN HER SHOES. She writes in a light-hearted way about a very serious subject. Other times she is just purely funny. Like the description of the difficulty of going to the "ladies room" in full police officer uniform, with gunbelt, baton, flashlight, and all the rest. This book is for enjoyment, education, and general interest in the subject of law enforcement as a police officer. Any person, male or female, considering such a career will find this a fascinating portrayal of life behind the badge.

From the Author

I think any woman considering entering a male dominated profession can benefit from my experiences. I have described in detail the physical and mental challenges of the police academy. From the academy to the street is a giant step for any officer, and particularly for a woman. Some of the experiences are comical, some frightening, some rewarding, and all are dangerous. The first time you get shot at is an awakening to the real world. I have tried to give my reader a "behind the scenes" view of what it's like to be a student at the academy, a rookie police officer in training, and a seasoned patrol officer working the night beat in gang control.
