In my opinion, this is the finest of Rounder Records' many compilations. In the 70's and 80's, Rounder had contracts with virtually every truly great banjo player in the business, both the older artists and the up-and-comers. And these selections reflect their best work. The only drawback is that you will want to purchase each of the albums these selections were drawn from, like I did!

This is pretty much the ultimate variety in banjo music. It has a fast breakdown, some old timey clawhammer stuff, and some stuff that is totally newgrass. My personal favorite song on this album is "Perplexed." This song is sort of a jazz song, only it is on the banjo, with backup chimes playing as well. A very cool cd for someone who is new to the banjo or bluegrass music.
