Book Description

July 11, 2002
Told from the perspective of a remora named Fishmael, who is travelling with his mentor, a wise and beautiful marlin known as the "Old Fish", BLUE ROAD TO ATLANTIS intertwines a spiritual parable with Hemingway's classic THE OLD MAN AND THE SEA. The result is a lighthearted yet moving allegory about leading a more fulfilling life. By setting forth the idea that the quest for a higher vision and the acceptance of life's currents brings true peace and happiness, this contemporary tale becomes a profound meditation that is as entertaining as it is transformational.

5.0 out of 5 stars I couldn't put it down, August 7, 2002

From childhood, I have always had a deep fascination for ocean life. The story's setting made the story very approachable for me. I received the book yesterday, and I finished it this morning! The words of Blue Road's simple tale flow as easily as water, and one can't help but feel swept away as you follow the adventures of two sea-dwelling friends.

"Blue Road to Atlantis" is a joyful reminder of one of the most profound lessons I have learned earlier in life: Be who you are. Doesn't make sense? Read the book! Sometimes one needs gentle reminders and this book did exactly that for me. For other readers, it may unlock a new perspective never before realized. This book introduces what I would say is the "tao" or the "zen" in "Old Man in the Sea", for reasons I invite you to find out for yourself. You'll be pleasantly surprised, touched and hopefully motivated to reflect on your own life and evaluate what your true path is.

Now I'm not a fisherwoman, nor am I driven by The Quest to know The Mystery, however, I love good writing & Jay Nussbaum's is flawless. Told in the voice of Fishmael, a thoughtful Remora (who some call a marlinsucker), we gain a view of life on earth, through his perceptions, petulance & philosophies, as he accompanies Old Fish on his pilgrimage.

BLUE ROAD TO ATLANTIS is about symbiosis of sea & sky, relationships & thoughts, flesh & spirit. It is also about our ability to wander & wonder, our tiny fears & huge worries. It is food for the hungry & a water for the thirsty - most of all, it is a radiant read that will linger long in your heart & mind, & the stories Fishmael tells will unfold in your life, as you look through refreshed eyes.

5.0 out of 5 stars At the risk of repeating what others have said..., March 19, 2003
This review is from: Blue Road to Atlantis (Hardcover)
... I'll just say that Blue Road is BEAUTIFUL. And so few works of fiction these days are. Read it, if only to learn about Jay's "10 Concentric Circles," which, if you're open minded, will give you a new tool to keep your priorities in life straight. For a parable about a bunch of fish, this is one funny, moving and extremely readable book.

DISNEY ANIMATED FEATURE DEPARTMENT, TAKE NOTE! This book would and should make a great animated feature that adults can enjoy, as well as kids!
