The Best Album I've Never Heard Before!,
By Goy Wonder "Goy Wonder, the Wonderful Goy" (Shippensburg, PA USA Terra Infermo) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Blue Scarlett (Audio CD)
As a personal friend of Mr. Reinberg, one might invalidate my opinions at the outset. Then again, one might not.
It wasn't until years after I first met Russ at an LA comedy writing session, that I grew to appreciate Russ' unique yet timeless approach to both instrument and idiom. I was at the bachelor cottage home of a mutual friend in Tarzana [oddly, the site of the aforementioned writing confab -Ha! Who says 'legal-ese' is a foreign language?-]; Anyway, a recording was being played. I blurted out: "Hey, who's the clarinetist on the session? Yo! This cat can BLOW, Jake!" [thank goodness I remembered the comma!] My friend says: "That's Russ!" to which I retort: "I didn't know he played. He's great! I think he's better than Woody!" ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Now, I was thinking Herman - who were YOU thinking? Not THAT guy, he's an amateur! [though he does make a good movie every decade or two] ------------------------------------------------------------------------- In my best LA 'Yo-cat' musicain dialect, I too was expressing what many as yet had not [and still have not] discovered. Now where am I? Oh yeah, Pennsylvania! I have listened to [and even downloaded] all of the sample clips. The clips are great! I highly recommend them. It's interesting to note that all of the mellifluous hyperboly spewed in supercilious fashion by 'professional' reviewers - was never superfluous, and is actually [in this case] true! I would pay the 40 bucks for 'Blue Scarlett' in a heartbeat, were Russ not a close personal friend. But, of course I know he's going to send me a complementary personally autographed copy - as soon as. . . Hey!! There's the door! I Bet it's the FedEx guy with my autographed copy! I better get this...You all really have to check out the clips, then BUY THE ALBUM! -Adieu Reservoir!-

Great Listening,

I have known Russ Reinberg for several years, but I had no idea that he is such an accompoished musician, as well as composer. This debut CD truly reflects his classical training, with great sensitivity. And his collaborators -- Larry Koonse on guitar, Dave Stone on bass, and Ray Brinker on drums -- perfectly compliment Russ' bluesey style. The music which Russ chosen is a pleasing mixture of some old standards and his own compositions which blend perfectly. This is just the type of music to put you into a mellow mood, and would best be enjoyed before a warm fire, with a good bottle of wine, and your significant other.
