Top Quality Accessory Socket,

I needed to install a 12volt socket on my motorcycle and chose the Blue Sea socket. The unit is very high quality and features a twist lock to hold plugs secure. Installation was slick and clean and I now have a 12v socket on the dashboard for my phone, MP3, GPS and heated clothing. Nice product, GREAT DEAL

This 12 volt DC socket is not in any way flimsy. The plastic is structural grade, and it is absolutely precipitation/rain proof when installed correctly. Seems indestructible. I added it to a small scale outdoor solar power system because having a 12-volt outlet to use with various automotive accessories is much more energy efficient than charging devices through a 120 volt AC inverter. (One less voltage transformer between the 12v battery and USB charger, and 12v to 120v AC is an expensive conversion energy wise to begin with...) So if you are running a 12v system of any kind (solar, RV) I'd recommend installing these anywhere you might want to use a charger because every 120v outlet you can avoid using will keep your battery fresh that much longer.

Before I bought this Blue Sea 1011 12v Dc Socket, I tried the Marinco 12V Receptacle Blk Plas Tic. I was disappointed that the Marinco had the quick-release type of nut to secure the back of the socket against the surface. The quick-release type is only partially threaded so that no matter how much you tighten the nut, it eventually pops back off. It is also not vibration resistant. Since I needed a secure receptacle, I went ahead and took my chances with this Blue Sea model. It has a fully threaded nut, which allows you to get a nice and secure fit with less chance of working itself loose.I have been very impressed with Blue Sea products, including their Blue Sea Systems Series 185 Thermal Circuit Breaker Surface Mount 7113 120 Amp. Even though I am using them for a solar application and not for their intended marine use, I have found they work perfectly and seem to be built solid.
