A breath of fresh air., July 29, 2004

I must preface this review by saying two things, I usually don't listen to the Blues, and the same times ten for Country. I close friend of mine gave me the heads up on this CD, and I can never thank her enough. It has been stuck in my car's 6 CD changer for 4 months now. It gets played weekly, if not almost daily. I have a 3 year old daughter who affectionately calls it Papa Music and will ask it to be played constantly (thank God, Barney and the Wiggles were killing me). I have shared the disc with many of my friends, and they to appreciate the turn-on, especially the Delbert fans.
I have seen Eric play many times, either as a solo act, or part of the bands for Allison Moorer, The Mavericks, Lee Roy Parnell, Steve Wariner, and Lari White. This CD gives him the freedom to express his ideas of the musical fusion between the Blues, Country, and to some extent, Rock. It is definitely something that is hard to put a handle on, and is unlike most of the other pop/radio music out there for mass appeal. He shows introspective and delves deep into his soul to find just the right words to express himself. With the help of some very talented friends, the music follows suit and becomes the complete package.
It is hard to put a finger on why I like the CD, but it just fits. All of the songs are good, but Blue Side and Heal Her Heart stand out to me. Do yourself a favor, give it a listen, play it for your friends, and they will thank you. You all will be surprised, and definitely not disappointed. Its a definite breath of fresh air.
