A Girl on the team?, December 30, 2011
This review is from: Blue Skies Again [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Interesting story of what it might be like if a female were to aspire to appear on a Major League Baseball team. Plenty of ribbing and descrimination to go around. Fun to see now defunct airline (Eastern) advertising. Might encourage a gal to wonder if she could actually do it.Will it ever happen? Is it possible? For now, just in this movie.

Bad news for people who like Bad News?, October 11, 2007

'Look out Wall Street I'm Coming Home!'
Real life ball player Robyn Barto is shortstop Paula, who wants to play with the big boys on a major league team. She visits Ft. Lauderdale during Spring Training and tries to convince snooty Devil's owner Sandy (Harry Hamlin from "Clash of the Titans"), and crotchety coach Lou (Dana Eclar from TV's "MacGuyver") to let her on the team. Sounds like a promising, albeit formulaic, sports picture, but throw in a a clumsy romantic subplot involving Paula's manager Liz (Mimi Rogers, "Someone to Watch Over Me") and Sandy that takes up most of the film's second half, and you get a film with an identity crisis, which seems to ruin the point of this whole endeavor.
If you decide to bother, keep an eye out for Andy Garcia in his first(?) film role as Devils' team member Ken. Early on, it looks as if the filmmakers are going to develop an interesting relationship between him and Paula, then they have Liz and Perseus muck everything up.
Syrup in a cup.
