5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful young Sinatra, October 31, 2008
By
Stuart Paine (Arlington, VA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Blue Skies (Audio CD)
This is a lovely collection of early 1940s recordings, possibly from radio. Eight of these performances sound to me like Frank with the Dorsey orchestra. In those tunes, he customarily waits through a complete instrumental statement of the melody before entering. In two others, Frank's accompanied by orchestra and in the four remaining recordings, probably done during the musicians strike of 1942-1944, he is front man for mixed chorus. None of them are high fidelity, but one can hear the music clearly.

1. "Blue Skies" - sounds like Tommy Dorsey, with male answering vocalists
2. "Ol' Man River" - orchestral w/ strings prominent
3. "Take Me" - sounds like Tommy Dorsey
4. "You'll Never Know" - chorus a capella
5. "I Guess I'll Have to Dream the Rest" - sounds like Tommy Dorsey
6. "Cradle Song" - orchestral strings
7. "Daybreak" - sounds like Tommy Dorsey
8. "It's Always You" - sounds like Tommy Dorsey
9. "Shake Down the Stars" - sounds like Tommy Dorsey
10. "If You Please" - chorus a capella
11. "Everything Happens to Me" - sounds like Tommy Dorsey
12. "A Lovely Way to Spend an Evening" - chorus a capella
13. "Sunday Monday or Always" - chorus a capella
14. "I'll Be Seeing You" - sounds like Tommy Dorsey
